2nd Trimester

swollen ankles at 15 weeks!?!?

Okay, I am only 15 weeks pregnant and I already have swollen ankles. Is anyone else experiencing this so early?! I always thought this would happen much later in my pregnancy. I had foot surgery on both my feet back in 2003. I kind of wonder if maybe that plays a role in the swelling while being pregnant? They normally are not swollen :/ What are you all experiencing?

  • I am just today starting to swell.

I would drink more water, and check your BP.

some people swell earlier, especially if you have been on your feet all day.

water is supposed to help since it flushes you out.

also a good excuse to rest!

  • I didnt have swelling with DD until 35 weeks. I've been told to call my doc ASAP if I get swelling with this pregnancy.

I'd call and ask your doc. Swelling is probably nothing (i.e normal) but it can be a sign of something more.

  • I was wondering about being on my feet all day. I am a teacher and try to stay hydrated throughout the day. The only negative part to this is that I'm constantly trying to find time to go to the restroom between classes! My blood pressure is perfect and definitely don't have a problem there. I'm guessing it's just from being on my feet all day. I'm a music teacher, so there isn't too much time to sit at my desk. I run the show basically.

  • I am 25 weeks now- but i started having really bad swelling in my feet and ankles for the last month or so.  My dr said some people just swell more than others.  I have found that if I drink water and keep my feet up when I get home from work- it goes down a little.  Now that the weather has started to cool down- as well as the humidity- I am just a little swollen.

I don't think you need to really worry unless your whole body and face are swelling.

It sucks but i just tried to laugh it off!

  • I am also a teacher and never have a chance to sit down or use the restroom. I am 19 weeks and my feet have been REALLY swollen the last couple of weeks.  I got nervous and called the dr. today b/c everyone was telling me that I was too early to have swollen feet.  Dr. said...drink more water and elevate your feet AS SOON as you get home.  This has helped almost immediately!  Comfy shoes help too!!!!
