Adoption

Question about switching from Domestic Adoption to Foster-to-adopt...

Ok this is very premature but we have found a sibling group that we might possibly be interested in adopting if they are still available thru the foster care system. I was wondering if anyone had any experience in switching from domestic to foster and what the process would be like to get a foster-to-adopt homestudy when we already have a domestic homestudy? I was just wondering how difficult the process would be and if we would have to start all over from scratch?

Re: Question about switching from Domestic Adoption to Foster-to-adopt...

  • We switched but are just now about to start our classes. Our SW said they are more strict on guidelines than most agencies (but that also may be where I live). In my state we also have to do the 27 hours of classes plus 12 more for adoption so they said it would take around 4 months before we would be able to apply for adoption.

Hoping things go good for you all!! GL : )

  • I don't have any suggestions or experience with it but I wanted to say good luck! :-)

  • Thanks Jessie! I knew we would need to take the classes for the state but was hoping the homestudy would be fairly similar and we wouldn't have to completely start over!!!! We are just starting to consider the possibility so I'm not even sure if we will end up changing or not. Thanks for the information!

  • According to our SW with our CD they have to do a whole new HS and cannot use the one from our agency. Confused Hopefully yours won't be that way though!!
  • We had two homestudies done because we were told we needed one kind then when it was submitted they said no you need this kind.

We had the info from our first one and our SW was very nice and gave us her whole file. The new SW just used a lot of the same stuff and just added to it. We did have to get a few things new like fingerprints but the second one took less than 2 months because we had already had the info for the first one. We took all classes we needed ASAP this will probably be your hold up.
