tummy time Q > 2-3 mo old.

Morning! So, I'm a bad mommy and didn't start tummy time until 2 weeks ago. We switch it up...sometimes shes just flat on her tum, and sometimes we use the boppy so that she's propped up a bit. Here's my quandary-- she doesn't DO anything when she's on her tum. I was expecting her to try to push herself up on her forearms or something, but she just kinda lays there. She does kick her little feet and pushes off my hands with her legs, which is great but I am a little concerned about her lack of upper body activity. Should I be concerned? Do I need to give it more time since we started late? Is it too early for her to be pushing herself up on her forearms?

She's got GREAT neck control and hangs out in her bumbo chair for a decent amount of time here and there, so I don't know if I should be too terribly worried about her motor skills.

any feedback is appreciated- thanks gals!

  • probably just give her more time. my LO is pushing up on his arms, but he's been doing tummy time since about 3 weeks.

  • We're in the same boat as you.  O has always had good head control so I wasn't too worried about it and he can push up but only briefly.  He doesn't really care for tummy time and after about 2 minutes he fusses a bit so I don't do it longer than that.  I think not being able to push up is still OK at this point.  More tummy time should help with this though.
  • Your LO just needs to get used to it.  She just doesn't know what to do yet.  DS pushes up, rolls over, etc... but we've done tummy time since we got home from the hospital (because he could already lift his head).  Your DD isn't behind or anything - just has to learn what to do next :)  Have fun!
  • my son use to do really fun things turn his head from side to side try to push up etc and lately he hates it so he just lays there and does absolutely nothing! we just keep trying
