How long was your labor with your first? Just out of curiousity

My labor, from the time I realized my water broke until his birth, was 15 1/2 hours.  I feel like that's pretty good (quick but not SUPER fast).  How long was yours from the time your water broke, or when you started timing serious contractions?

If you have other LOs how long were their labors?

  • Water broke around 8:30am and DD was born at 7:44pm, so about 11 hours.  I didn't start having contractions until I got pitocin at the hospital around 1pm though.

  • From my first timeable contractions to birth was 15 hours....from the time that my water broke to birth was around 5 hours if I remember correctly.

edit: I want to add that I was very dilated for weeks and weeks due to PTL and having IC so my case wasn't a typical "first time" mom.  I arrived at the hospital at 6 cm and had been 4 cm for a few weeks before that.

  • checked into the hospital at 1am and was holding DS by 9:21am, pushed for 1 hr and 45 min.

  • water broke/1st contraction 10:10pm- DD was born at 2:18am. 4 hours and 8 minutes

  • 38 hours.  But I had an unknown medical issue.  I'm hoping for waaaay shorter this time.

  • 9 hrs. Started timing serious contractions about 2 or 2:30pm, got to the hospital about 6pm, dr. broke my water at 9:51pm & DS was born at 11:13pm! Fast!!
  • 4 hours.  water broke at 230am.  didnt have a single contraction before that, or even after that for awhile.  decided around 330 to go to the hospital just in case it was my water (and not pee).  at around 345, i finally started having contractions and they were only 1 min apart.  by the time i checked into the hospital i was 6-7cm.  babies were born at 630 and 634.

  • contractions started at 5am, water broke at 7am, after 3 whopping pushes. DD was out at 3:59pm.
  • I was induced Thursday evening and he was born Saturday at 1:30am.  I dont remember when my water broke...sometime on Friday I think late morning.

  • I had to have a c-section as soon as I knew I was in labor(she was footling breech). But based on how quickly it progressed, the Dr guessed that it would have been pretty quick- 5 hours or less. I didnt even know I was having contractions but was 1cm. My water broke shortly after that and I was 3cm, and by the time they started my c-section about 20 minutes later I was almost at 7cm. So 1cm to 7 in less than 2 hours total.

#2 on the other hand was completely different. I was in labor (painful contractions that were 2 min or less apart) for over 80 hours. Not exactly the way I'd thought it would happen based on #1 LOL!

  • contractions started around noon (although I wasn't completely convinced that was what it was). Went to the hospital around 5:30 when they were about 3-4 minutes apart, and she was born just before midnight, so about 12 hours in total.

  • Has some minor cramping/contractions after my 39 week appt.  Water broke at 7:15 am and Bailey was here at 2:46.  Almost 21/2 hours of pushing! About 7 1/2 hours
  • 24 hours (almost to the minute) from the first geunine "painful" labor contraction. 2 minutes apart from hour 7 on...

Only dilated two centimeters in 19 hours. Finally took the epidural and dilated the rest of the way. Pushed her out in 15 minutes.

  • 3 days of contractions at home...2 hours at the hospital before she was born.
  • #1 took a total of 17 hours.  I had an epi and I think it was slower because of it.

#2 took 7 hours and my water never broke.  I progressed really quickly because I moved around the whole time.

  • My water broke about 7 pm and he was in my arms at 3:07 am so 8 hours I guess. I feel like active labor was probably about 11-3 so that was only 4 hours. I was lucky. Mine was quick and easy!
  • I'm not sure when I really went in to "Active labor" because I didn't go to the hospital until about 4 pm and he was born at 8:48 pm so that's only 5 hours. But I noticed I was having contractions starting around noon that day.

  • 18 hours... 3 hours of pushing.

Here's to hoping the next one is much shorter!

  • About two hours, and then I pushed for about 15 minutes.  He was also a preemie and born at 33 weeks, 4 lbs.  It definitely would have been longer and harder had I been full term.

  • Roughly 24hr from when I realized that I was having contractions-3 of those hrs were spent pushing.

  • I was induced. I went in monday night at 9 PM and had him Tuesday night at 7:21. So thats 23 1/2 hours. The pictocin did notwork for me can you tell?
  • I woke up at 3 am with contractions and she was born at 2:01 am the next morning, so 23 hours.
  • #1 - water broke and she was born 3.5 hours later (I had no clue I was in labor, I thought I was just leaking since it wasn't much lol)

#2 - little over 9 hours from the first contraction

#3 - little over 6 hours from when my water broke, contractions didn't start until 3 hours after my water broke

  • 74 hours of active labor (69 without drugs and not by my choice!).  10 minutes of 3 pushes and he was out.  So, at least I got a quick delivery out of it.  The rest is forever burned in my memory as one of the worst things I have ever gone through.  I probably won't write that in his baby book though.  :)
  • I was induced and was in labor for 33 hours, then had a c-section.  Turns out the umbilical cord was too short and I stopped dilating at 7 cm because DS couldn't get any further down.  I had a repeat c-section with DD and when she was born, we discovered her cord was short as well!  So weird.

  • 55 hours, including 4 hours of pushing. It sucked.

  • I was at 6cm when my OB broke my water.  I had zero pain up until that point and my contractions were random.  After she broke my water, they picked up immediately.   That was at 4pm, and DD was born at 12:40am, so... just over 8 hours?  I don't count anything before my water breaking because I wasn't in the hospital and I felt literally nothing.
  • Labor started with serious contractions every 2 minutes at 6pm on Friday, was admitted and water broke at 7pm Saturday, had a c-section after 3.5 hours of pushing at 2pm on Sunday. It was a LONG haul!
  • 12 hours

Although I was induced and ended up with c/s. It probably would have been a lot longer

  • With DD, I was in labor about 17 hours from the first time I noticed my contractions were timeable until she was born.  With DS, from the minute they hooked up my pitocin until he was born it was 6.5 hours.
  • 29 hours from the time my water broke - here's to hoping this one is quicker!
  • My water broke a little after 11 pm on a Friday and she was born at 6:09 pm Sat, so about 19 hours.
  • Started contractions at 6am.  Water broke at noon.  Had DD at 10.  So about 16 hrs total and 10 hrs from when my water broke.

  • Water broke at 3:30a, arrived at the hospital at 4:15 6-7cm, epi around 5:15, 10cm at 6, pushed beginning at 6:30, DD was born at 7:09.

    3.5 hours, at 38w6d.

  • Went to the Hospital at 1am for contractions, hooked up and I was only 2cm and wasn't really contracting.  Sent home at 4am.  When I walked in the door at 4:30am my water broke.  Got back to the hospital at 7 and DS was born 20 minutes later.  So from true start of labor, it was 2 hours and 50 mins.
