gallbladder problems

I've had 3 gallbladder attacks this past week. It's like back labor all over again. Just wondering if anyone else it in this boat? Any advice would be great. They always hit between 2am-5am. I just had an ultrasound Thurs so I'm hoping they will decide to take it out. It's hard to take care of LO after one of those.

Re: gallbladder problems

  • I had mine out when I was 18. If you have gall stones, my advice is to get it out asap and don't ignore it. I kept "roughing it out" and it ended up nearly rupturing and it was leaking toxins into my system. It was horrible. The nurses told me that after that pain I would think labor was breeze, luckily I never had to experience labor bc DD#1 was breech so DD#2 was a repeat c/s. I say luckily because I never want to experience anything near that pain ever again! I had a morphine drip while waiting for surgery and it barely knocked the edge of, I wad literally writhing in pain for hours. Any way, the laproscopic surgery was nothing, I felt a million times better afterwards, you'll be gone taking care of your LO, it's nothing compared to a c/s! For most, it's an outpatient surgery. GL!

  • They usually take it out if you're having attacks.ย  I had mine out when DD#1 was 2 mo old.ย  You will need help for about a week since your stomach hurts after surgery but it's an easy surgery.ย  Stay away from fried, spicy, and fatty foods.ย  I had a barely functioning gallbladder prior to the attacks so I couldn't really eat anything ( I was full of stones as well) but this is the diet they recommend.
  • I had gallbladder attacks all throughout my pregnancy... One actually lasted 18hrs and put me in PTL! (Damn those hotdogs lol) Anyways, I just had mine taken out two weeks ago and I am loving it! The recovery wasn't bad at all! I felt pretty much normal 4 days after! Oh to help prevent attacks for now, cut out all fat from your diet and reduce your salt intake.

  • I had stones and after a really bad attack a month ago I went to the ER and basically said I wasn't leaving until they took it out. ย Totally worth it because that pain sucked!

  • I had my gallbladder out last wednesday and feel so much better! It's a basic outpatient procedure and I was told not to lift anything more than 10 pounds for 10 days. I was also told to follow a low fat diet for the first week, and pump and dump for the first 24 hours. The only issue that is slightly annoying is that it's a little harder to position LO to feed him without a big pillow or the boppy. Rolling over in bed is a little uncomfortable, but after having a c-section, this is nothing! Good Luck!
