1: What is the branch youre affiliated with? Air Force
2: What is you or your DS's job? DH is a Navigator on JSTARS
3: What is the worst base/ Post you've ever been to? All the bases we've been stationed at so far have been nice. The worst I've ever visited was Maxwell AFB, but it's still not horrible.
4: Kids? TTC, no kids yet.
5: Pick one thing that irks you most about Military Life. (other than deployments, those are a given) The inability to long term plan (as in 6 mos or more in advance) ANYTHING. Trying to plan a dam* vacation is a nightmare and rarely works out.
6: Pick one thing you love about Military life. The feeling of community, the "1950"s feel of patriotism and love for Country and people.1: What is the branch youre affiliated with? USN
2: What is you or your DS's job? He was a hospital corpsman stationed green side. He was medically retired after his 2007 deployment. He signed for 6 years but was retired excatly 5 years into his contract.
3: What is the worst base/ Post you've ever been to? Camp LeJeune was the only base ive been to with him. I dont have much to base it off of. But after almost 4 years there I was ready to go.
4: Kids? One one the way
5: Pick one thing that irks you most about Military Life. (other than deployments, those are a given) Leaving the friends you met behind when you move on. The bonds we made will last a lifetime. I just miss them so much!
6: Pick one thing you love about Military life.I will agree with above poster, the feeling of community and pride.
Dude I have SOOO been there. Our first official PCS we had to do a full DITY move because we NEVER got PCS orders (just training orders for DH with a start date on it). TMO wouldn't move us w/o the PCS orders. We left old base the day we got orders and had to be to new base the next day for his start of training. CLEARLY someone dropped the ball on that one.
GL, I know moving, especially OCONUS moving is BIOTCH! Especially PG. Dude Im praying for you.
1: What is the branch youre affiliated with? Army
2: What is you or your DS's job? DH is currently an AIT instructor

4: Kids? Twins on the way

DH got home from deployment at the beginning of May. We took 30 days leave for the whole month of June (got pregnant lol) and then DH went straight to ANOC and 2 other schools. He just went back to "work" on Monday. Since he's PCSing he doesn't actually have a job right now so the whole time he was in school, NO ONE was tracking him. So no one knew until Monday that he didn't have his orders yet. Supposedly the unit has done everything it can and now we're just waiting on the civilian worker in that office to actually email us the orders. They said we would have them on Thursday, but of course we didn't. We'll get them eventually I'm sure...
I'm honestly not too worried about it. I know it will all get taken care of in time, but the sooner the better in my mind. KWIM?
1: What is the branch youre affiliated with? Navy
2: What is you or your DS's job? Naval Flight Officer on the E-2C Hawkeye
3: What is the worst base/ Post you've ever been to? They have all been pretty good so far, although they each have their faults. Pensacola and Norfolk didn't have a great support system, but it was due to the type of command DH was in. Ventura County doesn't have all four seasons which I miss a lot and the pass and tag office acts holier than thou.
4: Kids? One making an appearance this winter!
5: Pick one thing that irks you most about Military Life. (other than deployments, those are a given) The inability/difficulty of starting/maintaining a substantial career and the overall idea that we are all young naieve stay at home wives/mothers.
6: Pick one thing you love about Military life. The knowledge that no matter where you go, you will always have an immediate common tie/bond with the women you will meet on base/post, and that even if you are not the best of friends the other spouses in the command will support you in times of need.
Yep. That's why we never got our orders on time. The Civ worker 'forgot'. Honestly when it comes to stuff like this we have learned that you really just have to stay on the people who are supposed to be getting you the paper work. Otherwise they will just forget or put you on the back burner for the people who have been bugging the hell out of them lol. It sucks, but that's the military for you haha.
In any case, good luck! I hope you get them soon!
Have you checked out the Trying to Get Pregnant board yet? I frequent there also, would love to see you there!
Lol. See the first "What Ive learned from this board" post. Yeah, that mentality drives me bonkers. Im almost finished with my BA, and almost every other spouse I know has a BA or a MA. Granted all of them are SAHM's b/c their DH's are gone too much and they move too much to be able to have much or a career. Most of my civilian friends actually dont have a higher education at all.
That's why we never got our orders on time. The Civ worker 'forgot'.
It always seems like this is the case. When we had to PCS from VA to CA we ate up all of our included "move time" days waiting for the Property office to schedule our move and ended up using DH's personal leave time to actually move. The Property office's reason "It's Summer." Ended up getting to CA about 2 days before the report date.
Yep lol. We had to make an 18 hour drive in one day to A. make it to the new station on time and B. in order to avoid using Leave instead of the given move time.
Oh yeah I saw that and it pissed me off royally, but I didn't bother to respond to it. Even though it bugs me I know that in the end people will think whatever they want to.
Yeah, I think it was more Made Up Drama than a legitimate issue that a real person had with Mil wives. I think the OP was just trying to get a rise out of us.
1: What is the branch youre affiliated with? Air Force
2: What is you or your DS's job? Linguist
3: What is the worst base/ Post you've ever been to? We're in Monterey now, at the DLI. Next we're headed to Davis-Monthan. I guess I haven't really been enough places to say.
4: Kids? One daughter, still fairly brand new=)
5: Pick one thing that irks you most about Military Life. (other than deployments, those are a given) I agree...the short notice bothers me a lot. It's hard to get used to not having a definite plan.
6: Pick one thing you love about Military life. I especially love that my husband has found something that he's passionate about, that he feels he is making a difference. I also love that I have a built in "family", so to speak. People are very willing to help each other.
Nice to meet you ladies! Looking forward to getting to know you better.Nice to meet you as well! And your DD is absolutely adorable! Just so you know, Davis Monthan is a FANTASTIC assignment IMO. GL and have fun!

4: Kids? Soon! I'm due Nov 2
5: Pick one thing that irks you most about Military Life. (other than deployments, those are a given) How some people in his office don't care about certain things, but if someone else hears about it, he gets chewed out. There's a sever lack of consistency at this base.
6: Pick one thing you love about Military life.Moving. I can't stand being in one place for too long.1: What is the branch youre affiliated with? Army National Guard
2: What is you or your DS's job? Combat Medic (68W)
3: What is the worst base/ Post you've ever been to? DH is AGR. So he goes where medics are needed. There are 3 posts that he alternates between and I love them. And all 3 are within 50 miles of our home. But, I will say that Shaw AFB is my least favorite base. We live in the town that Shaw is in. It's okay...I guess...it's about to get much better though now that 3rd Army is coming in.
4: Kids? One 2 month old little girl
)
5: Pick one thing that irks you most about Military Life. (other than deployments, those are a given) My husband's unit...it's full of a bunch of idiots.

2: What is you or your DS's job? H is in Field Artillery

4: Kids? We have a 4 year old DS.
5: Pick one thing that irks you most about Military Life. (other than deployments, those are a given) Military doctors. It is nice not having to pay for healthcare, but the healthcare *I've* been given has completely sucked.
6: Pick one thing you love about Military life. I love lots of things, but overall, I love that we are able to live worry free with regards to stability. We don't have to worry about layoffs. We live comfortably.

4: Kids? One due in Jan!! Baby #1 for us.
5: Pick one thing that irks you most about Military Life. (other than deployments, those are a given) Here, the [lack of] medical care. It really sucks. It may be free, but not great.
6: Pick one thing you love about Military life. The job stability, honestly. DH stays at home, yet we live comfortably and are not in debt. Also, I have to admit a sense of pride for what I do- stateside it seems miniscule, but realizing the impact of my job (especially while deployed and I can privide MWR among other things) and how proud my family is... priceless.

3: What is the worst base/ Post you've ever been to? I've only been to Whiteman AFB and that's where we'll be for the next 13 years! No transfer for us because the B2 is only at 2 bases and this is the home base.
4: Kids? almost 7 weeks pg with our first
5: Pick one thing that irks you most about Military Life. (other than deployments, those are a given) Any time you make plans, the military breaks them for you!

3: What is the worst base/ Post you've ever been to?
LANGLEY AFB!!! HANDS DOWN the freaking WORST!!!!! The place is so dysfunctional. Offutt was the best (near Omaha, Nebraska) assignment that I could ever hope for (ironically)
4: Kids? Three (5 y/o girl, 13 mo old son and one on the way!)
5: Pick one thing that irks you most about Military Life. (other than deployments, those are a given)
Just the "shut up and color" bullsheet. I dealt with it for six years myself and now I still have to deal with it after getting out. It's so nice to be a civilian again. People don't realize what sacrifices are made when you are in the military. OH and the healthcare. We switched to Tricare Standard.
6: Pick one thing you love about Military life.
The people I've met (and the camaraderie), the places and experiences I've had. It made me a stronger person having served my time. There's not much now that I can't handle. Gave me a new perspective on life.
1. Air Force
2. DH is a linguist.
3. We've lived in two fantastic places (Monterey, CA and DC area) so I can't complain about those. I did grow up near Tinker AFB though and it's not that pretty.
Seriously though, we've been lucky.
4. One 18 month old DS
5. Waiting to wait. DH will find out in the next two months or so whether or not we're going back to DLI for him to take an advanced class. Waiting for that and then waiting for orders so I can officially leave my job raises my stress level. It's the uncertainty of it all.
6. The rest of it is great. The people, the places, the security. No complaints.

6: Pick one thing you love about Military life. Pride. Im so proud and thankful to say my husband is in our United States Army.
Hey girl! So thankful for your Dh's service.
I just wanted to say that you may want to consider taking down your DH's deployment ticker as giving exact dates on when troops are coming home/moving on a message board is a violation of OPSEC. Just a thought. Not a flame or anything like that at all, I just didnt know if you knew or not.
Hope to get to know you better!
