Lopsided help?!

Hi ladies!

I'm a new mom to a 4 week old (tomorrow) and over the past week I've noticed that I'm very "lopsided".  I've JUST started pumping and am finding that I'm getting only a half an ounce at a time combined, unless I pump first thing in the morning (then I get 2 or 2 1/2 oz).  I usually get a little more from the bigger breast.  LO eats on demand and I'd like to start building a stash not only for when I go back to work but also so that DH can help feed.

My question is this - is there anything to do to help correct being lopsided.  I offer both breasts everytime and am double pumping.  Does this go away on it's own or is there something I can do?

Thanks for your help mama's!

Re: Lopsided help?!

  • I have this issue.  It got better after a little while although now seems to be happening more again.  I always started offering the smaller breast first.  Also, are you pumping both sides when you pump?  I pumped just the smaller side 1x a day in addition to the double breast pumping and that helped.  Also, pump on that side longer.  Sometimes I will turn off the pump and turn it back on and get another letdown.  Also, pressure around the breast to be sure it is fully emptying helps.  It is not uncommon for one breast to produce less than the other.  I do realize the impact, though!
