Trouble TTC

Anybody know anything about Low T?

Hi everyone, just trying to gather as much info as I can about low testosterone.  Hubby's SA came back fine (months ago), everything in normal range, but we just found out through bloodwork from his family doctor that he has low T.  The thing is - his doctor gave him a testosterone injection and he is supposed to get them every month for 3-4 months and from what I've read those testosterone injections will lower his sperm count!  Noooo!  I feel so bad because the doc thinks these shots will make him have more energy and feel better over all (and of course I want my husband to feel better) but we can't risk lowering his sperm count!  It's always something!!!!!

Re: Anybody know anything about Low T?

  • MH has Low T and was prescribed Androgel. The RE told him that he absolutely could not take it as it will impact his sperm count. So I would do some research and check with a specialist- a good urologist. They would be able to give you the best information. Good Luck!

  • I would check with your RE and a urologist, rather than having your DH start this medication that was prescribed by a pcp.

  • MH has low t and has blogged all about it (linked in my siggy below).  They put him on Clomid.  He's been taking it for 7 weeks and just had blood work done again last Friday to be gone over in an appointment THIS Friday.  He also has erectile dysfunction and low sperm morphology.  YH is very lucky if low t is his only problem and there aren't any further complications.  MH's urologist told him those other testosterone treatments would lower his sperm count because they just creat testosterone in the blood, so the testes stop making it because they detect enough, but really, sperm is made from the testosterone in the testes, so if they're not making any t, they're not making any sperm.

  • Well just great.  That's what I figured.  And his stupid doctor already gave him the first injection!  He will not be getting any more of those.  Poor guy.  He has to find out he has low T and now he can't get the injections to raise it.  He was not surprised by the diagnosis because of all the problems he's been having he had pretty much self diagnosed that anyway but I was surprised since his sperm analysis was normal (thank God) Although like your husband, his morphology was his lowest (great blog by the way, I am sending the link to my husband).  Morphology was at 18%, motility 50%, count 69 million.  And this was actually done later than it should have been since it takes an hour to get to our old RE's office.  It was done around 1 hour and 15 mins after producing so I am hoping that those numbers are even better right after bding.  He is going to try and get the testosterone issue taken care of by exercising, losing weight, and eating healthier.  He is also job hunting because his current job is jut WAY too stressful.....<sigh>....on the upside of things, my surgery is tomorrow so hopefully whatever my problems are they will be fixed!!!!!!  Thanks ladies!
