Help-my 9 week LO REFUSES to take bottle

ok, I have tried 7 different types of pacifiers and FAIL (ok, fine LO-you win as pacifiers arent all that necessary)

but I have now tried 4 different types of bottles and he REFUSES to take one. He has taken one type 3 times with success but seems like he forgets as when that same bottle is in his mouth, he acts like it is foreign to him and just plays with it or screams.

I need to go back to work in a few weeks and now I am really getting nervous...

Any recommendations?

  • we have been having this same issue. just keep trying!! i was finally able to get him to take it in his bouncy chair but day care will only feed him in their lap.  after several bouncy chair successes i held him and bounced on the exercise ball.  just yesterday he took it, no fuss, no tears while i sat on the couch.  he is getting better with my DH but prefers it from me.

we do 1 bottle everyday and it's finally getting a little easier

  • have you tried a wide bottle? ds will only take bottles that have a wider nipple because it is more like ours. i use avent and he loves them, in fact its the only ones he will take.

  • Are you feeding him? Have someone else feed him, and leave the room. If you are in the room, he might smell you and your milk. Try at least once a day giving bottles. Good luck.
  • We had the same problem.. I started trying the bottle at 4 weeks I was a lil over anxious and was scared that my baby would not take it.. we finally won with Nuk my baby loves it and will take either me or the bottle with no problem but we did need some help with a pacifier (which I was total against)... Don't give up just keep trying I know it gets hard and for me I even got a lil depressed and sad that she would not take it and I would not be able to go back to work... But I'm happy and she is happy...
  • Have you tried The First Years brand Breastflow style? It requires the baby to make compressions on the nipple to get milk out like they do on the boob. My little one hated other bottles and we tried this one and it frustrated her a little at first but then she figured it out and will go back and forth between the bottle and me. She will even take that bottle from me.
