How much weight gain at 6-12 mo?

Is anyone else's BFing 6-12 month old gaining less than average? DS is gaining less than the 1.75 - 2.75 ounces per week that KellyMom.com states is average. And he actually eats solid food 3 times per day as well as BFing 5-6 times a day!

At 7 months, DS is 17.4 pounds and he looks sufficiently chubby to me, so I'm not freaking out about his position on the percentile scale, but I wonder if maybe I'm not giving him enough solids. Thoughts?

TIA for your input!

  • At this point BM is more important than giving solids since your LO is still getting most of his nutrition from BM.  If your pediatrician isn't worried about his weight I would say keep doing what you've been doing. If you are getting a little worried I would try to add an extra nursing session or two. Good luck~
