anyone have a REALLY picky eater?

Lukas used to be a great eater--he loved fruit, yogurt, eggs, meat, bread and cheese. He never was a huge fan of veggies but ate enough of them that I felt like he was eating healthy.

As he gets older, he is becoming more and more picky. He only wants to eat yogurt and some fruit and this is driving me crazy. I always offer him other things but tend to cave at the end and give him a fruit or yogurt because I need him to eat. I think he figured this out so I am stopping that but I don't really know how to get him back on track.

Today, I offered him oatmeal, toast with hummus, toast with cream cheese, sweet potatos, chicken, turkey burger, carrots, corn, peas, rice and spinach.

On his own (we do blw so he self feeds), did ate 3 bites of the oatmeal, 3 bits of a grilled cheese, one small piece of chicken, a part of a rice cake and a little bit of banana and refused everything else. I am getting frustrated and it doesn't help he picks up food he doesn't want and dramatically throws it on the floor

He is teething a has a little bit of a cold but he is more than happy to eat bluberries and yogurt....

Re: anyone have a REALLY picky eater?

  • Georgia used to be a great eater!!  Broiled fish, meatballs, tofu, broccoli, carrots....you name it.

However, this past week all she does is spit stuff out.  Even things she used to love, she spits out.

She will only eat grilled cheese, toast, pancakes (see a trend here?!), puffs, Mum Mums....she will eat fruit & yogurt though.

I am trying hard not to let this bother me, but it does.

  • I am glad Lukas isn't the only one. If he could choose his food, every meal would be yogurt, bluberries and Os!

  • OMG, I totally could have written this post.  My DS used to like and eat everything we gave him.  In the past week and a half he refuses almost everything we give him.  It is so frustrating.  And he spits it out, swats at the spoon, and also throw food on the floor in digust.  LOL.

In "the book"  I read that you are not supposed to force them to eat or to get upset if they don't eat.  Just keep offering...We are cutting out any snacks like gerber puffs until he begins to eat normal foods again.

  • DD has an issue with textures.  She despises Puffs, meat, stage 3 foods, peas, carrots, bread, mash potatoes.  She will only eat purees (veggie and fruit), yogurt, and oatmeal. We tried again last night with meat and she gagged and spit it back out. Then I tried some of the Stage 3 food (broccoli and carrots) and she gagged and spit it out. I figure I will just try again next week with the meat and Stage 3 foods and see how she does.
