Parenting after a Loss

How often do you clean your house since LO arrival

& has your definition of clean changed?

Since I had Logan I have sort of cleaned every week but I still have not cleaned like I used to.

I keep the house straight, I have cleaned toilets, showers, tubs, countertops & mirrors in the bathrooms but no floors (in a month, EEK)
In my kitchen I have done countertops & sink ... I have swept the floors
the rest of the house has just been straightened & spot cleaned

Re: How often do you clean your house since LO arrival

  • Wow, good for you for cleaning that much.  I am slightly embarrassed to admit that we clean like every 3 months.  The bathrooms get pretty gross looking.  I mean, I do straighten up the house and sweep more often than that, but I definitely don't clean like I used to.

  • I don't clean nearly as much as I should.
  • the house usually looks decent, but never great.  i know dh wishes i kept it cleaner, but if he helped at all, it would be cleaner!  i have to get up for work at 6:30, and by the time i get home i am usually too exhausted to do much cleaning.  and in a couple weeks, i have to start being at my new job by 6:30am, and it is an hour away!  i am so not looking forward to that, and i have a feeling the house will look worse when that happens.

  • We used to be on a schedule and everything got cleaned once a week. Now it's more a week and a half? I can't let the floors go too long or the dog hair accumulates and drives me crazy. We do most of our cleaning at night after DS is asleep, since he goes down at 7.

  •  I am doing pretty much the same as you. This place is in desperate need of a deep clean

  • I take care of organizing, 75% of the cooking, supermarket shopping, and light cleaning (wiping up, dusting) and DH does the rest including all of the heavy cleaning. I do something daily, but I wouldn't consider it "cleaning." DH is back to traveling for work so I really, really want to get a cleaning lady! We had one a few years ago and I want her (or someone) back!

I may get a cleaning lady , I am waiting until DS starts school to see if I can do it once I have more free time

  • Well we have our house cleaned bi-weekly. They do the floors, bathrooms, kitchen and dust everything. So in between I just keep everything picked up, counters wiped down, and the laundry done. If I didnt have our house cleaned I have a feeling it would be a lot dirtier than it is lol

  • Once a week... major clean.  Floors, switchplates, phones, door jambs, sweep patio.  I stay at home... I have one full day dedicated to cleaning and laundry and I don't lift a finger all week in terms of cleaning except for that day.  It works for me.

  • My definition of cleaning right now is about the same as yours. I do have to run the vacuum upstairs every other day.  (Just because of the cat hair)

I thought things would completely go to hell after the babies came home, but they are pretty much in order. MUCH more together than when DH was taking care of the house while I was on bedrest.

  • The cleaning ladies come every 2 weeks. I try to keep everything tidy in between (at least on the main floor where we're doing most of our living - the basement gets pretty hairy b/c of the dogs). I sweep usually a couple times a day (again, dog hair) and try to keep things put away, counters cleaned, kitchen sink clean and empty, etc.

I will mop usually once in between their visits b/c the floors get nasty.

  • After months of having a plan to clean the house and never it getting it done, we finally caved in and hired a cleaning lady. It is definitely money well spent and so nice to have a clean house and not have to do any of the work! If you can cut back anywhere and hire someone, do it!
  • Once a week we have someone come in and clean.  This is the best investment I've ever made.  It also helps that it's my neighbor and she does give me a deal.  But, it helped take stress off me by me being able to take something off my to-do list and it helped with DH b/c I'm not complaining that he's not helping me clean.  :)  Win-Win situation.  I do keep the house straightened up during the week and do sweep, with 3 dogs there will be sweeping involved, but it's nice not having to worry about getting the floors down or bathroom cleaned I can come home relax and spend time with DD.

  • This makes me so much better!!  I thought I was horrible!!  I try to clean at leats once a week but, my biggest fail is the floors...  There never seems to be a good time to do them.  Laundry is always caught up becasue I do one load every day and the 2 days the nanny is ther she puts it in the dryer and folds it and My sister does the same 1 day a week I did the others.  Th kitchen gets semi cleaned every night Everything wipped down other than the floors.   The bathroom gets vacumed every few days and cleaned.   So my biggest problem is the floors but, I have to get better at it if Lo starts to crawl.  Luckily I have hardwood floors so there not that bad i can see how dust they are but, no one else does....  I need a better Routinue...  I wish I could afford a cleaning lady.
10/17/2009 - Our Miracle came 10 weeks early. IF,2 MC and 1 Preemie we have our miracle.. Baby Hope 10 weeks 5days was taken from us on Dec 18, 2007. Forever with us and Forever missed. Triplets Lost baby A @ weeks, Lost Baby B at 6 weeks and lost baby Abigail at 14 weeks when she was born to little for this life..... Forever with us ....
  • Honestly, I don't that much. We pay someone to come and clean every two weeks :)

I still do laundry, and spot cleaning in between. But other than that, we just decided it's well worth it to us to pay a cleaning lady. Thankfully, we got a really good deal on the price and she does an excellent job!

  • I pay a friend to clean my house on Thursdays.  Best money I could possibly spend; well worth the take-out Friday sacrifice!  She charges me $150 a month, and it is a wonderful thing.

I try to take a couple of minutes every night after LO is asleep to pick up.

My definition of clean has changed - I'm actually more anal about it than I used to be.  I used to be more of a slob, but with LO hanging on the floor and putting *everything* in his mouth, I feel the need to keep things very tidy.
