I have been pumping once or twice a day to help my nipples heal- but it only gives me one or two bottles- which we end up using within 2 days.
So when did you start pumping to build a freezer supply? There will be days in Sept where I will have to attend some meetings and won't be home from 9-4 PM so I want to make sure I am ready.
And when you did start how did yo incorporate pumping into you nursing schedule? Another words- at what point during the day did you pump?
Re: When/How did you start your stash?
I started my stash yesterday and I go back to work Sept 7. LO is sleeping in 4 hour blocks, so I'm just getting up at the two-hour point that we phased out and I'm pumping for 10-15 minutes then. I'm trying to find similar points in the day so I don't have to lose sleep- times where she was eating but is now stretching to larger time blocks that is. I also plan to start pumping one side when she's eating from the other (she's a one-sider right now), but I want to collect some data first and figure out when the best times of day are for that to happen without taking from her next feed.
I started my stash (unintentionally) around 2 weeks, while I EBF. My milk was coming in late, so for about a week PP, I had to actually supplement w/ formula. During that time, my LC suggested that I pump 8-10x/day to help the milk coming in. By around 10-days I was able to EBF, and finally wean DD off formula completely.
Sometimes DD would nurse on one side, and be happy--so I would pump the other side (usually first thing in the AM). One of my breasts (appears) to be producing maybe 3x the amount of the other, so I have been able to put away about ~4-5 oz/day.
