I'm 3 days late and still getting a BFN!

I tried posting something on the TTGP boards and the "advice" I got was really...discouraging.  I'm keeping track of my cycles and ovulation to a certain extent but I'm not being OCD about it.  I do know when I ovulated last which is why these negative tests are perplexing.

Re: F/U to a previous post- Another BFN
Given that you posted this EXACT same thing in March, I'm a little perplexed. If you are this confused over the process, perhaps it would be better to be a bit more "OCD" about your charting.
https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/34014696.aspx
And I'm sure by "discouraging" you mean they didn't fall all over themselves to tell you that you are pregnant despite the negative tests. You are going to get honest answers, and those are not always going to be the answers you want to hear. That's life.
All you can do is keep POAS or wait it out. I can't see inside your ute, so I don't know what to tell you.
I know the day I ovulated and I got off BC on 1/4. It took a while to figure out my periods but my average cycle length is 43 days. I am not "confused about the process" either. In March I hadn't yet figured out my cycles and before I was on BC I could time AF to the hour! So I thought when I was two weeks late that I was pregnant.
And by "discouraging" I meant it seemed like some posters were almost happy to say "Nope, not pregnant!" and yes, I am looking for hope that maybe I am pregnant and hoping to hear that some people had this experience or possibly knew someone who had the same thing happen. Is that wrong?
Thanks to everyone else though!
Unless you were charting your BBT than you may not have ovulated on the day that you think you did. I know of multiple women who got a positive OPK multiple days in a row (if that was how you know).
If I were you I would test once a week until you get a BFP or your period. If you go 60 days without a period I would suggest you call your doctor. Good luck!
Yes, this would really help. I'm sorry, but if you for sure know the day you ovulated, and you're getting negative tests at 3 days late you're probably not pregnant.

haha! love it! I've been charting on paper. I did use the ovulation tests and the day I started testing I got the "go ahead!" And I actually tested earlier that I had planned on because I didn't think I was going to ovulate that early but I tested again a couple of days later and it was definitely the first day I tested so DH and I "covered our bases!" I guess I'll just have to be patient!
Thank you ladies again, so much!
I'm really not trying to be a pain in the rear, but a positive OPK does not mean that you did ovulate, but that you are possible getting ready to. OPKs measure your LH surge, and you can have multiple LH surges in a cycle.
Very true. This past cycle I had so many positive OPKs they just became useless. I would get like 6 positives in a row....but no temp rise...over and over and over. If you really chart (as in take your temp with a BBT) you should see a noticeable temp rise to indicate ovulation has taken place. Otherwise you don't *really* know.
Hmmm...now there's something I didn't know! And I don't think you are being a pain at all. It's very helpful to get advice from people who are sympathetic and want to help as opposed to the ones on the TTGP boards who I think would eat their young.
 LIke I said, I'm not
looking for someone to blow smoke up my a$$ and pad my ego, I know at
this point I'm probably not preggers but there's nothing wrong with
holding out hope, right?
When you ladies say "chart" are you talking about BBT or ovulation? I've been charting my periods and ovulation but it's damn near impossible to chart my BBT because I work the night shift and you are supposed to take your temp first thing in the morning, the same time every day right?
totally agree! I was looking for some helpful advice too from the TTGP board and it was horrible!
I don't know much about charting, or OPKs, but I do know that I can wish you the best of luck! And I really hope you get that BFP soon!!!
That is probably why the advice from TTGP wasnt "helpful".
PS. Many people here were on TTGP not too long ago.
EDIT: typo
A chart is a combination of a few things...BBT, cervical mucus, and cervix positioning. However, BBT is THE MOST important part of that. FWIW, because my son wakes up at different times every day, I took my temp at different times every day and I was still able to see a pretty consistent ovulation pattern.
OPK's, while helpful, are really not the way to go. I have never gotten a clearly positive one and have conceived twice, so that must mean I ovulate. It's clear on my chart, though.
I HIGHLY recommend you get a fertility friend account. It's free, although I also recommend the VIP account. It's pretty damn cheap and tells you a ton of information. I think I paid something like $15 for 3 months or something.
I'm feeling nice tonight.
Go to fertilityfriend.com and sign up to chart online. It even analyzes your chart when it has enough information. To temp all you need to do is take your temperature with a BBT after sleeping for a minimum of 3 hours. So, if you work nights and sleep from like 8am-2pm (or something), take your temp right when you wake up before getting out of bed. It's not hard to do. Like a few posters said, you can't rely on OPKs alone. Only a temp rise will confirm ovulation.
BTW, the ladies on TTGP are very sweet and knowledgable. Obviously, there are a lot of people on 1st tri from that board, so it doesn't look good on your part to come over here and bad mouth them. Just sayin'...
Good luck.
I'm Switzerland in the matter. I understand they have been through a lot over there and the ones that are over here are very protective of the others still there. I posted on there a long time ago and I do know what you mean about the "tone" but try and remember that they are just not the type to sugar coat anything. It's not really a personal attack on you, not usually anyway. GL!!
Don't let the drive by BS on that board bother you. It cracks me up that those girls get so uptight about that crap. Now you can't even post drive-by questions? The BFP drive-bys are a laugh in and of themselves. Nobody is posting them to people on the TTTC boards. For real, it's ridiculous.
Anyway, what I'm saying is that a lot of the girls who get upset by "drive-by" postings are apparently too uptight for their own good. Again, I feel the need to make the disclaimer that I'm NOT talking about the girls who struggle/d with IF or those TTTC. I'm talking about the ones who try for a reasonable amount of time.
Again, I highly recommend fertility friend. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me...I'll help you as much as I can.
Um, no...you really didn't. You really need to grow a thicker skin if you are going to participate on internet boards (and not just TTGP, any board). That board is asked your same question on a daily basis. If the responses sounded cold, it's because they have answered that question 15 times since Monday. They are also going to tell it like it is and I'm sorry, but you're likely not pregnant.
Also, if you're not tracking your BBT, you have no way of *knowing* what day you Oed.
Did you read her original post? When did anyone on TTGP admonish her for asking a drive-by question? That was someone over here in 1st tri who mentioned that, not anyone in TTGP.
I was referring to one of the PP's above who said they didn't like drive-bys. She didn't post a drive-by BFP, so I assumed that she was talking about her question. If I was wrong, I apologize. I HOPE I was wrong
It was this post that made me think she was talking about drive-by questions.
The only thing they were questioning is why she hadn't responded. A couple people were waiting to help via looking at her chart, but she had posted and maybe gotten offline for awhile. I think it just frustrates people when they're asked a question and are willing to help, but then get no further info from the OP, that's all.
BTW, your LO is sooo cute!
I see. That makes sense.
And thank you!
Good luck to you...I hope you get a BFP very, very soon!!!
Thanks Lucy...you and me both!
The TTGP board seems to be for women who chart as a professional sport. If you don't know what a BBT is there, they're going to assume you're too stupid to get pregnant.
I would bet that most people get pregnant without ever having to chart their cervical mucus. If you don't want to go the extreme charting path, you don't have to. If you do, you can comb that board for a lot of their newbie tips. Or, go see a doctor who can give you a plan to follow. But those days waiting for AF are always going to be horrible! And it's always a crap shoot whether you'll get sympathetic responses to any of your questions, on any of the Bump boards.
GL
I know this is rare but my SIL got a BFN for three months and went to the OB cause she thought she was crazy and there was a 10w3d little baby on the screen!
Point being you never know and like PP said until AF comes it aint over till the tampax sings!
Also, your cycle length will vary normally to some extent. What shouldn't vary is your luteal phase (the time between when you ovulate and when your period starts). So knowing when you ovulate is a must, but you also must know how long your luteal phase is so that you can determine if you are actually "late". I second getting an account on fertilityfriend.com. It's free unless you want to upgrade to a VIP membership (which can be helpful).
BIIIIIIG LOL....they should probably think of a TTGP for charters and a TTGP for non-charters
I don't think this is the case at all. The ladies on TTGP are all helpful and know their stuff. Stupid questions are annoying, and so are posters who get all defensive or just ignore the replies they get. Why in the world would you ask a random bunch of strangers to decode your symptoms (with no chart to look at) and then expect them to tell you if they think you're pregnant? This happens all the time on TTGP and most often, telling the OP to learn a bit about her cycle/body and come back after that is the most logical answer!
Not charting does not mean you are too stupid to get pregnant. However, having no real clue what's going on in your body month after month probably isn't going to help you.
I think what's frustrating is when someone who doesn't chart goes to TTGP and complains that they are "late". Well, if you don't chart, you really have no idea if you are late. Of course lots of women get pregnant every day without even knowing what a BBT is, but there really isn't much anyone can tell the OP with a question like she is asking. We don't know when she ovulated, what is anyone supposed to say? If the hpt is negative, she's likely not pregnant. I think that's a whole lot nicer than giving her false hope.
OP - pick up a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It expains how to chart your cycles, if you're interested, and even has a section on how to temp if you do shift work.
My Ovulation Chart
Charting is certainly not a requirement on TTGP.
However, the ladies ask that if you don't chart, don't post "ZOMG AF is 3 days late and I'm getting negative tests!" because unless you chart, there is nothing anyone on the board can do or say to help you other than consulting a magic 8-Ball or ute goggles.
Carina 12.28.2010 | Aurelia 9.23.12 | Chart - Round 3
Bingo.
They aren't asking to be meanie heads. You can't really know that you are "late" if you don't chart. No unmedicated cycle is "clockwork" - even if your period shows around the same time every month, you could ovulate all over the place. They ask to get a better understanding of your situation, to answer your question.
And inevitably the OP gets huffy because they aren't just being told "yes, you're preggo!"
