Yea, I hate it when people refer to it as "fat" ... I didn't gain FAT, I gained BABY. I would say "You're getting so round!" or "Your bump is growing!" That's much more accurate, and cute.
My BIL said this to me. I said, let's talk about things you should never say to a pg woman...
Call me ignorant, but why? Seriously. Most people do get fat when they're pregnant. Now is it fat? No. (unless you really are gorging yourself out and it is fat, then you have other issues) But what other adjective are people suppose to say? "You're getting so big/huge!" is frowned upon as well. Help a sista out here. What's an acceptable adjective to insert in this sentence: You are getting ______. Or "You're so ______!"

my co workers usually see me in scrubs and it hides my bump well. today one of my coworkers saw me in the regular clothes and her eyes bulged out of their sockets and she was like "whoa! hello baby bump!" lol atleast she didnt say "hello! fatty!"
I love the explanation of gaining baby and not getting fat.
I mean...I'm still eating healthy, not giving into cravings, and going to the gym 3-4 times a week. Am I getting fat? Well my arms have doubled in size lol but who the F is anyone to comment...we're pregnant for pete's sake!!!
At least the comment was by someone old...haha...old people don't care what they say anymore and at least that justifies it a little bit.
That would annoy me. Yes, she was kidding, but what if you had an eating disorder or something? "Fat" just shouldn't be used. One of my co-workers keeps commenting whenever she seems me eat because I eat often. She'll say, "You're eating AGAIN?" or "You're STILL eating?" She's joking, but still I think it's something you shouldn't say to a girl, pregnant or not.
My dad told me that I was going to give birth to Jerry Garcia because I was getting so big. Why Jerry Garcia, you may ask? I have no idea. But apparently, I look like I'm carrying the weight of someone who weighed twice as much as me. Oh, and who died. Sweet.
Seriously though, I do refer to myself as getting fat. But I think if I felt moved enough to comment on someone who was pregnant, it would come out as, "Wow, you look great!" It's kind of rude to tell someone that they're getting fat, even if they were.
yeah, that's lame. I think "you're getting big" is much better, because we are getting BIG, not FAT. I'm not adding much fat (yes I know we add a little) during this process. The shape of the bump is totally different. And there's a freaking person in there. Not a bunch of fat.

I just don't comment on people's appearance unless it is to compliment them. I just usually say " you look wonderful, how are you feeling?" I think fat/big/huge in most peoples mind is a negative so I would not call anyone pregnant or not those words. Even if those words accurately describe them who am I to call them out on it.
My brothers girlfriend said it best the other day "Sweetpea is growing" when referencing my growing bump! So yes I'm getting big but it reminded me that its not me but the baby. My mom also says "you can see your bump now". You can reference the weight but put it into context. I agree with PP that old people left their filters when they got their AARP card.

I would prefer one of these too, instead of "You're getting fat!" My SO likes to tell me that I definitely look pregnant now, with a big goofy grin on his face. His 9 year old son, however, loves to tell me I'm getting fat. The last time I said "It's not fat. It's your baby brother!"
Re: "You are getting fat"
Well..... are you?
I'm genuinely curious what other adjective people expect to hear?
hahaha nice!!

Sorry girl!
Bah. That's nothing.

What's wrong with a simple "You're looking great/good/healthy/happy"? Why do people feel the need to comment beyond that anyways?
Like we aren't KEENLY aware of every change in our body and appearance right now.
