I think that for a nation that is based on the separation of church and state, it's ridiculous that gay marriage is illegal. I've not heard one arguement against gay marriage that isn't rooted in religion.

This. And I'm a devout. I've studied enough history to know that things don't work out too well for both religion and politics when the two are crossed (re: middle ages).

Ditto! I remember one of their big arguements was that it would preserve and protect marriage. In that case, let's outlaw divorce instead....since that actually DOES attack marriage.

I agree. I'm a church going Christian, but I don't think any religion should dictate state or federal laws. At all. I am all for gay rights. Gay rights are civil rights and I wish our country as a whole would acknowledge this.

While
officially proposition 8 has been overturned realistically nobody has
any idea until appeals are exhausted. If the case reaches the Supreme
Court it is very likely they will uphold it. Look for solid legal
analysis on Judge Walker's ruling. Appeals are bad news. I have hope
because his ruling on the Hamdan court case is basically legendary and
shows just how incredible of a man he is.
Our Journey from two to three!
3 IUI's, 2 IVF's, decided to move to foster/adopt.
12/24/2009 Baby C born, 2/1/2010 placed with us,
5/17/2011 Adoption final- we are finally a forever family!
I am so incredibly happy for my gay friends and relatives in CA today! Honestly, this news put a great big smile on my face. I'm hoping to dance at some gay weddings soon.

All I can say is that is about right for what this country is becoming.
Heathens, all of us! lol.
babywisher, as long as you believe YOU'RE going to heaven, don't worry your pretty little empty head about where the rest of us homo-lovers will end up, k?
I think it's WAY unconstitutional for a judge to overturn what a majority of people voted on.
SomeONE has way too much power.
The majority of our founding fathers also agreed on checks and balances and the judicial system to make it what it is today. And they agreed on separation of church and state. Can you give me a non-religious reason why this Prop is Constitutional?

You like TOTALLY don't know anything about the Constitution. Just because something wins the popular vote doesn't mean it jives with the spirit and meaning of the constitution. His decision also has a check to his power and will come under review on appeal. You need to educate yourself more on the process and what the constitution is REALLY all about.

Re: NBR: Proposition 8 has just been ruled unconstitutional!!
About time!

I want to go to a gay wedding.
I think everybody should get married. And buy a house with a sane mortgage. And file their taxes together.

Hooray!
The judgement is even by a judge appointed by Bush Sr. Even better!
I live in "everything bush is wonderful" land so this is fun ammunition for debate.
Yikes. Care to elaborate?

YESSS!
LOL! You sound like my DH!
LOL my DH says that all the time. He also says he would accept if our son is gay only if he brings home a rich guy. hahaha
I agree! And I want to go to a gay wedding too. :-)
3 of my best friends are gay- I LOVE my gays!
They should have the same rights!
Me too. They are the bestest. And my husband calls them my GBFs hehe

You're right! Our country would be soooo much better if we keep acting as though "all men are created equal, but some are more equal than others".
