Baby Names

Confirmed: It's a girl! Now back to names!

Current frontrunners are Delaney and Riley...also kind of like Piper.  Our last name is Smith, so I want something a little bit unique, but not to the point of being weird.

Anyone have any other suggestions that might fall in the "different but not too different" category?

Thanks!

I like Piper the best out of the three you mentioned.

Me too. The other two are very much NMS.

    What about

    Clementine

    Louisa

    Olive

    Florence

    Heloise

    Imogene

  • Delaney is my new favorite name. DH says he doesn't like it but he does like the nn Laney.

My mission is to win him over on Delaney.

DH and I both liked Riley, but it is fairly popular just so you know, since you said you want something a little unique (it's in the top 50 according to the social security website). Piper is also nice and isn't in the top 100 either. Personally not a fan of Delaney.

Other names from our girl list - I liked Avery (similar in popularity to Riley though) and DH liked Felicia (which is very uncommon).

  • Delaney and Riley are ok. I really like Piper though.
  • I only like Riley for the boy name it was traditionally. Delaney and Piper are just nms. I prefer Delaney over Piper though.

Some suggestions that aren't overly popular:

    Eliza
    Alaina/Elena
    Savannah
    Julia
    Vivian/Vivienne
    Gwyneth/Gwen
    Greta
    Jillian
    Molly
    Juliana
    Lucy
    Eleanor
    Helena

I don't think these are really your style, but thought I would throw them out anyway.

  • I love all those names! I would rank Delaney first followed by Piper then Riley.

This.  Riley is pretty popular right now, and I knew an old man named Delaney (so it's out for me as a little girls name!).

    Yep, I agree!

I don't think we have the same style at all... hmm. What about Leighton?

  • I actually did have Leighton on my list (Leigh is my middle name) but hubby didn't dig it.

I'm discovering the hardest part about naming is associations with other people, or names I like have already been taken by someone I know ;)

Some of the "old" styles names mentioned above, while I understand they are coming back, give me too many reminders of lunch ladies and Sunday school teachers from my past :)

A lot of the others my friends or family members have already used.

With all the options out there, this is really hard!

  • I like Piper - but I see it on this board at least once or twice a week...sometimes more depending.

Delaney is a good name.  I had a student named that once.  I think it would grow up with a girl well.

  • Great suggestions!  And thanks for the support on Delaney - I think that is still my favorite at the moment but not ready to commit...haha

Here's a weird one for you...I know of a girl named Maguire and I always thought that was a cool name....too much?  (the spell check doesn't like it! :))

  • My niece is named Delainey..love it!!  And a PP suggested Ainsley..I think those two would be my top choices.  Then Piper.  I'm not a fan of Riley at all.  And Maguire.....sounds a little masculine to me.
