i finally got one he agreed to put on the short list... Dh is set on Maggie. (i think simpsons, then i think cute)
i have suggested Scarlett (he was a maybe then no.)
finally i have convinced him of Amelia.....is it weird to spell it Amilia? my maiden name started with Milia... so that's the reasoning for changing up spelling...

A couple times but nothing major and everyone around her spells it correctly. I think with all the crazy and creative spellings out there nowadays people don't (or shouldn't) assume the spelling of a name. Numerous names have different spellings (not creative spellings) such as Cathie/Cathy/Kathy, Anne/Ann, Elizabeth/Elisabeth, Renee/Rene/Renae.

I don't like non-standard spellings of names, because your child will have her name misspelled forever. My name is a standard spelling of a name with 5 "standard" spellings (mine is #1 or #2 most common) and it is already a pain in the ass that it's spelled wrong so often...even though again, my spelling is probably the #1 or #2 most common.
But I do like the significance. Maybe you could just make her name Milia and then because it's a new name it's not a non-standard spelling of another name.
And again, this is just my bias based on having my own name misspelled a LOT (even though it's a standard spelling.)
To me it seems unnecessary, and just seems like a waste of time for not only her, but also all the people she will meet throughout her lifetime.
It's good that you want to honor your family, but most people won't know the family significance when they meet her.
I would just think that her mother didn't care enough to take five seconds to look up the spelling before she filled out the birth certificate.
This. It looks weird to me spelled Amilia. I would spell it Amelia or go with Emilia.
Well said, I totally agree.
