Military Families

Any WPAFB bumpies?

Hi!! This is more of a vent about WPAFB, then a hello! I feel like everytime I go to the commisary or pharmacy/hospital I'm at a retirement community rather than a AFB. It's so ridiculous. It gets so annoying!!! Anyone else feel this way?

Re: Any WPAFB bumpies?

  • DH was stationed at WPAFB before we moved to Egypt. I agree there seem to be a lot of retirees around, but I think that's because Ohio is a popular place for older people to settle and a lot of people like to raise their families in the Dayton / Columbus area.

It never bothered me. I like seeing the older people around - I appreciate their service, some of them at times when the military was even more deeply unpopular than it is today. It's a good reminder of why we all put up with everything we do.

  • i agree with meltoine but i also feel your pain.  we are currently at Buckley AFB and have a similar situation.  there are a LOT of retirees in the area and the base is split amongst active duty (all services), reservist, and contractors.  there is a real challenge in finding community here.  it's definitely frustrating sometimes.  thank goodness for a safe place to vent.

we are thinking about trying for WPAFB next though, so thanks for the heads up that things won't change much.
