3rd Trimester

Are you bring a blow dryer to the hospital?

My friend told me her sister did, I couldnt possibly imagine having the energy to blowdry my hair.  I was planning on just pulling it back into a tight bun or scruching it up.  I also dont think Im going to bring makeup, I havent really worn it much lately and dont think i'll want to deal with putting it on. Anyone else?

Re: Are you bring a blow dryer to the hospital?

  • I probably will.  With that said my hair takes literally 5 minutes to dry and I feel so much better if I take those 5 minutes vs. if I don't!

  • Damnit - I didn't even think of that!
  • No way. I have wavy hair, and I hate how it looks without a blow dryer, but for the two days I'll be there, I think I'll survive. I thought about bringing a bandana to wear, just to keep it calm, or just pulling it back. No one is going to care how my hair looks!
  • I have aboslutely no intention of putting on makeup or blow drying my hair! I will have just had a baby and if people expect me to look nice right afterwards, they are sorely mistaken! I don't care what I will look like in pictures... it really doesn't matter!
  • I thought of that. I don't know... maybe... Actually, I'll probably bring it and decide if I want to blow it out that day. Depending on how I feel ya know?

  • r thick, it takes me 45min to an hour to dry, so I know this just isnt an option to me.  I actually havent blown my hair in 2 weeks, ever since I went on medical leave, up in a bun every day, its sick!! at night when I take it out, its still wet!

  • i have a blowdryer packed in my bag simply because i own 2.  i am definitely not taking make up however.  I havent really worn it all pregnancy and I dont plan to start wearing it again anytime soon.

  • I have been wondering this question for soooo long! I was wondering if they have the little hotel dryers at the hospital. I can't stand wet hair- plus it will be january so won't I get cold? Plus my DH dries my hair occasionally for me, he likes to, it is the sweetest thing in the world. So hopefully he will then.?
  • I'll definitely bring make-up, but no hairdryer.  I'm really hoping not too many people are going to visit in the hospital anyway, and my husband already knows how crazy my hair is without drying and straightening it.
  • I am not, because these are standard in all of the rooms at my hospital.  I doubled check when I was there last week.  I can't stand having wet hair.
  • I'm going to bring my make-up for sure, but will not be bringing my blow-dryer. My hair usually dries pretty strait and frizz-free on it's own, so I don't think that it will be really necessary. DH and I probably won't have any visitors at the hospital though because all of our family lives 8+ hours away. Plus I am hoping for a vag birth and will probably only be in the hospital for 24 hours.
  • You reminded me to bring mine.  My hospital had an ancient one...it literally was a wheeled cart that had the machine on it along with the long tube and a strange handle/hole where the hot air came out.  I had never seen such a thing.  I will be in there for 4 days (c/s) and I would like to do my hair at least once.
  • Yes, I always blowdry my hair after showering. ?Otherwise it looks fugly. ?But, I take it with me anytime I go somewhere overnight. ?I will take makeup too but I don't wear that much anyway.
  • definitely. along with my?straightener. ?doesn't?mean i will use the?straightener. but at least if i have the energy to do do it i will have it with me. ?I have really curly/frizzy hair so if i let it go wild, it becomes scary. ?it takes me like 10 minutes to do my hair anyways.

  • Yes, along with my makeup and straightener... I feel like a priss, but if I feel like crap I at least want to look decent. I might not even feel like using them, but at least I will have them just in case.
  • yes, and a straightner and makeup.. i will prob have lots of visitors and it makes me feel better if i look decent.  i probably wont put on make up but at least do my hair but i like to have to option.
  • most definitely! i may not use it at all who knows---but i feel better having the option to should i want it...
  • Right now my hair is too short to pull back and it's wavy and short and looks HORRIBLE if I let it air dry so I am definitely bringing a hair dryer.
  • yes, and definitely makeup. ?if i look crappy, i feel crappy. ?of course, i may feel TOO crappy to blow dry my hair or cover zits, but at least i have the option. ?or my visiting sister or mom can help me. ?Tons of pictures taken those 36 hours!
  • Definitely.  And my straightener and makeup.  Like others, I don't know if I'll use it, but I want to have to option.  I have never been able to let my hair air dry -- it is hopeless unless I do something to it.  I feel much better when I spend the 15-20 minutes to doing my hair and makeup.  (I do both even on days when I don't leave the house).  Plus, I want to look decent in pictures.

  • Yes, I'm not sure if I'll use it, but in general I feel so much better after I shower, dry my hair, and put on mascara. It really isn't about who will see me either. I just feel better when I'm clean and have decent looking hair. Mine is wavy and looks like a frizz ball if I don't dry it.

I just visited a friend in the hospital about 12 hrs after delivery. She was wearing normal clothes (yoga pants and a tank), had her hair up, and had on basic makeup. She said before she got ready and fixed her hair she felt horrible, but afterwards she felt refreshed and in a much better mood. I kind of think I'll feel the same way.

  • Yup...a minimum stay is 48 hrs starting from when DD is delivered, so I figure I will definitely want a blow dryer and make up at some point during those two days.
  • If I'm too lazy to blow dry it everyday, I don't think I'll feel up to blow drying it after just having a baby.  Same thing with make up.

  • I'm planning on it because I feel so much better when I dry my hair not to mention it gets to frizzy if I don't.  I'll probably bring some make up too, I'm one of those people who rarely leaves the house without it, and with cameras involved I won't be able to help it.

  • nope, I rarely use blowdryers and aside from that I doubt I will care too much about my hair.
  • No. My hospital has private rooms and provides hair dryers.
