I was stunned at my last appointment when a lady sat in the waiting room talking her cell phone (loudly) the entire time. It was not just a "hey honey, can you pick up some milk on the way home?" kind of quick convo...it was a full blown long convo covering everything from the details of her Dr. appointment to what she was doing this weekend to plans for her baby shower....
I thought it was a rude b/c it made me feel uncomfortable -- the volume and proximity kept me from being able to NOT listen.
What do you think about cell phone talking in a Dr's waiting room?
Re: s/o: talking on cell phone in Dr waiting room?
If you knew how lonely my life has been And how long I've been so alone And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along And change my life the way you've done

I'm going to make an AWESOME big brother.
I had the pleasure of overhearing all about how one woman had just had her baby a few weeks before and they had sex and didn't use protection because they thought breastfeeding was enough. She was at the Dr's to have some blood work and surprise she was pregnant again...I learned all about how mad she was and how bad her boyfriend was going to want to kill her and how her boss was going to be super pissed when she found out she needed another maternity leave....
I don't let it bother me - I hear people talking on their phones everywhere and it isn't too hard to tune out. My doctor has a very large waiting room though as there are several doctors in the practice. I might feel differently if there wasn't room enough to be spaced out for the most part.
I will put my own phone on vibrate and text as pp said. I would have a quick conversation if the person calling was important but wouldn't make a call myself.
