Trying to Get Pregnant

Mirena removal - side effect?

I just had Mirena taken out (to TTC in a few mts) - and I am ZONKED. Just always soooo so tired (and no, I am not pregnant - yet!) - would fatigue be a common side effect of Mirena removal? I called my OB and naturally they said no, but to see my PCP if it continues.   any thoughts? This ain't cool...

  • I haven't had this experience, but I am sure with any changes in your body's hormones you can expect all sorts of changes. Could it be your iron levels? That is always my go to when I am tired all the time.

  • Sorry but I didn't have that side effect but the pp is probably be right about changing hormones.  I hope you feel better!

  • I had Mirena removed back in February and the only side effect that I can recall was mild cramping in the few days that followed.  Are you taking prenatal vitamins yet?  Those are packed full of iron and may help to offset that drowsy feeling.

  • I read online that women can have pregnancy syptoms after having it removed. I don't know if it's true, but I could see the hormonal change causing that. I had some pregnancy-like syptoms after mine was removed but maybe I just wasn't feeling well and chalked it up to that.

  • Interesting!!! Though - it's been 1 month exactly since having it out..   And I started the symptoms maybe 2 wks ago. Ya think it would be a 2 wk delay with the symptoms?

I could just be lazy though.. summer does that!

  • I had pregnancy symptoms when I had mine removed a few years ago along with the worst bleeding I've ever seen - almost went to the hospital. I truly hope that doesn't happen to you though. The fatigue is normal. Your body will adjust. :) Just rest, be good to yourself and drink plenty of fluids.
