Does DC have a nightlight?

I posted earlier about not even having to use Ferber last night with DS. I put a nightlight in his room last night and each of the three times he woke he put himself back to sleep. The last time, after I nursed him, he was up for an hour in his crib playing though. And he woke up like an hour earlier, at 6 instead of 7. The nightlight is actually really bright, almost like a lamp. Do you think I should try and find a more dim nightlight, or just see if it works again tonight? As much as I want it to be soothing to DS and help him fall back asleep, I also don't want him to be playing in his crib for an hour at 3am. Then again, he put himself back to sleep. Aggh, I am torn! Or should I just turn the nightlight off after that 3am feeding?

Do you use a nightlight with your DC?

Re: Does DC have a nightlight?

  • We do use a nightlight, but it's pretty dim. I have no idea how it affects her sleep...she's been sleeping terribly lately. I just like to have some light in there for when I go in to nurse her.

  • Is he crying for you at 3 a.m? If hes just playing I would let him be, like you said he put him self back to sleep! Big Smile  Ds wakes in the middle of night sometimes too and talks to his mobile and goes back to sleep...I just let him be.

DS doesnt have a "nightlight" but he does have the homedics lullaby machine that has the projection. I usually turn it on, but when its off there doesnt seem to be a difference in how well he sleeps/ gets up at night.

  • We use a nightlight and I think that it has helped.  When DD wakes up she can immediately see where she is and she isn't scared.  I started using it so I could see her when I went in to check on her, but I think it has helped her be able to put herself back to sleep.  It is not extremely bright, but you can see.  When we have put her in bed with us she wakes up crying because it is dark...maybe?  Who knows!  Maybe just try with and without and see if it was a coincidence or not.  GL!

  • We have a nightlight which is actually a mini christmas tree that DH loves so much and refused to put away after the holidays! There aren't any ornaments on it at least!! We also have a plug in nightlight. There have been a few times that I forgot to turn it on and I don't think it changed anything. I think that they will play in their crib even if it's dark...they really don't know any better. I wouldn't stress over it too much, he's probably just going through a phase right now.
  • DD does not have a night light...unless you count the little green light on her video monitor or the light on the wipe warmer.  DD actually prefers it to be dark when sleeping.  If we turn on the hall light and her door is not shut she wakes up.
  • No nightlight. We do have a motion detecting light in his bathroom that comes on when we come in to get him in the night.  Otherwise I want him to get used to night time = dark.
  • We have on but don't use it.  We keep her room dark to sleep.  The only time we used it was during the first 6 weeks when I was going in to BF her a lot so it was helpful to me to have the light to find my way around.

  • WE have a fish aquarium in her room and we leave its light on until she wakes up to eat.

  • I use a LED nightlight... mainly so I can see in DD's room using as little light as possible. If I removed it tomorrow, I don't believe it would make a difference with her.
  • I just recently stopped using the nightlight, and DD has been sleeping much better.
