Morning vs. Night time bump.....

When I go to bed at night I feel great because i think my belly is nice and 'full' and that the babies must be growing away.

When I wake up.... I feel like I lost 20 pounds and look thinner than I did before I became pregnant.

Did this happen to anyone else?

When does my bump stay put??

Mine is less in the morning than at night too. Not super drastic but I can tell the difference.

  • Totally normal.  The "bump" you see at night is bloat.  In both pgs', I actually took a pic in the morning and the evening, there's a huge difference.  Your bump will seem the same when you wake up with one (I was around 16w with the twins, around 24w with JR).
  • My belly is bigger and harder at night too.  I say it's normal.  I assumed it has to do with eating and drinking throughout the day and then fasting overnight, but bloat makes a lot of sense too.

  • Right now it's bloat from impeded venous return from your growing uterus.  Probably within a month or so you'll start to see actual baby belly.  Don't worry, it's coming!

  • I definitely remember that happening and it is totally normal as pp described it.

On a separate note: I thought this post was about "the bump" message board and the difference between posts in the am vs pm or something silly like that!  I was all ready to reply that I was on team morning b/c I never get on here at night ;-)

That's what I was thinking also.

hahaha... I was reading one of my pregnancy books the other night and it said to come up with a fun name for the babies or your pregnancy like "the bump"... clearly, that's a place..not a name for my babies...hahaha ;)

  • It's also that all your guts and everything settle backwards when you sleep.  After you've been up all day, they're more forward when gravity pulls at it.

It's a bit similar to why you're 1cm taller in the morning too.

I love when people have cute names for their baby(babies) in their belly

My BFF called her baby Dot b/c that is what she looked like on their first ultrasound and the name just stuck the whole pregnancy.

And my cousin called theirs Stowie - as in a Stowaway.

  • My bump didn't stay until about 17/18 weeks. Until then, I just got progressively more bloat-y looking until I went to bed, then woke up not pregnant again!

  • Mine definitely feels smaller in the morning and I feel huge at night!
  • Thank God for you ladies! I feel much better now ;)
