I'm having a double stroller nightmare

I have an UPPA Baby single - which I love- but to convert it to a double would cost almost the price of a new double stroller (long story- mine is too old).

So, I went looking for new strollers and I like both the Citi Mini by Baby Jogger and the Phil and Ted.

I couldn't really tell the difference between the Sport and the Vibe (other than price).  Anyone have Phil and Ted and know?  Can you use the seat for an infant?  It says from birth but I couldn't tell if you need a carseat adapter or if the lower seat can hold an infant.

I live in NYC so a stroller which can fit in small stores and has good wheels is vital.

My ds will almost be 3 when the baby arrives.  While he loves to walk, there are times where he definitely needs to be in the stroller for safety reasons because of traffic and the amount I walk.

Help!!!  If you have a double stroller, I'd love your thoughts. Thanks!!

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.

Re: I'm having a double stroller nightmare

  • We went with the City Mini Double. I gave it whirl this weekend with my niece and DD and I'm in love. It's small enough to fit through all door ways but would not work down tight aisles or in stores with clothes rack. Like the Duane Reade aisles you guys have... it might be to big but other then that it's a really small double. GL!

  • I hate my Phil and Ted.  It is really not good at much of anything.  You can use it from birth and that is handy.  It may be because I am tall, but I find it hard to push when loaded with 50 pounds of kid (My DD is 28 pounds and DS is 19).  I also had a hard time with flats. The Vibe has proprietary tires and they can be hard to come by if you have a blow out.  It is larger, seems taller and wider when you push it, I did not think it was any easier to push and to me, the big advantage of the P&T is it's size.  It is handy for running in and out of small shops (but has no place to put any packages you might buy.)

I ended up getting a Mountain buggy Urban Double with a carry cot and I love it.  It is as narrow as a wheelchair, so you can get it in most places, since ADA makes most stores follow that.  I use the Phil and Ted only in the car where it is pretty flat, like a mall, not for walking or taking the train.

  • We're in NYC as well and have a phil and ted's classic.  There's a weird way to put the second seat up on top so the main seat can be laid flat for a newborn then once the baby can sit up they can go in the back.  There also is a carseat adapter available if you want that.  My 2 year old actually prefers to ride in the back and that works since she walks a lot, then I can pop her in if she's too tired to keep walking, but her sister gets the better view since she spends more time in the stroller.  The only time I don't do that is while I'm jogging since having the heavier kid in the bottom seat can throw the balance off.  I love my P&T and would highly recommend it.

  • I just got the Joovy Caboose ultralight and I LOVE it!  DD is 3 and loves her "big girl seat".  I also have the Bumbleride Indie Twin which is awesome but huge.  I use it for walks and big outings like the zoo.  I needed something light for everyday use and the Caboose is it!

Just bought a City Mini Double a couple weeks ago.....LOVE it :)

I don't love that all of the accessories are separate, but I love everything about the stroller. I swear its lighter than my bulky single Chicco.

The new 2010 ones have a larger basket.....it drives very smoothly and fits through all doors (so far!).

There are also roomy mesh holders on the back of each seat where you can store stuff.

I don't know about  your area, but here in Michigan it is super hard to find them and the accessories. An employee at Buy Buy Baby told me they are having a hard time keeping up with production right now.

I found the accessories on different online sites and got the stroller at BBB.

I cannot say enough great things about this stroller!

  • I have a P&T Vibe and I really like it. You can purchase the carseat adapter. The carseat can not fit in the second seat. I'm little but I love pushing my stroller up hills and during workouts. I do not live in the city but it works great for my needs. See my sig for my boys' ages.
