If You Were Induced

If you don't mind sharing (not judging ANYONE and those wanting to judge need not enter), I'm interesting in seeing if my "hippy" book stats are applicable here, so...

How many weeks were you? Why did you get one? did you end up having a c-section or deliver vaginally? and if you wanted to go naturally were you able to?

I always felt that the books I read, although I thoroughly enoyed them, might be biased, but the post below has me wondering.

Re: If You Were Induced

  • Technically I was induced...but that was because my water broke and I didn't go into labor on my own.  They put me on pitocin to get my contractions started.

  • Loading the player...
  • I was induced on my due date due to my sudden high blood pressure and the decrease in my sons activity. I labored for 10 hours and then rushed in for an emergency c-section because of Trent's quickly decreasing heart rate.
  • imagercollier_17:

How many weeks were you? 30 weeks 3 days the first time, 30 weeks 4 days the second

Why did you get one? I was bordering on pre-e, I failed my BPP U/S, my fluid was low and my placenta was failing causing low blood flow from me to the baby...I also hadn't dilated at all and Kieran hadn't dropped

did you end up having a c-section or deliver vaginally? and if you wanted to go naturally were you able to? C-Section...the OB didn't want either of us to end up in trouble if a 3rd induction failed as well...he was also concerned about my low fluid (which in the end turned out to be a good thing because I had absolutely no fluid and would have had a dry birth if I had gone vaginally)

  • I was induced with my 1st because I went 41 wks, 5 days and my doc agreed to it after begging from me to get this thing out.  I labored w/o an epi as long as I could stand it and wasn't progressing so I got that, too.  Then, after 3 hrs of pushing they threatened me with a c/s and 2 min later, out he popped.  I think he just really wasn't ready.

    No pitocin with the 2nd.

  • I was induced one day before my due date because of pre-e...they started pitocin around noon or so but started having major complications and they had to do a c-section because they said if I had her vaginally I would have bled to death..c-section was done around 7:15 or so...delivery time: 7;45
  • I was 38 weeks. I had high blood pressure and it was progressively getting worse so they decided the baby had to come out! I delivered him vaginally. And I did not want to go naturally and I got an epidural but it did not work.

    How many weeks were you?

1st baby - 39 wks - medically for the baby

2nd baby  - went on my own at 38 wks but requested pitocin since my labor stalled since had problems with the epidural & blood pressure

3rd baby boy - induced at 39 weeks - I just felt there was something wrong.. & I was right - cord wrapped around his neck - he ended up being okay but if I waited any longer it could have been worse.

Why did you get one? explained above.

did you end up having a c-section or deliver vaginally? all vaginal deliveries

and if you wanted to go naturally were you able to? I could have, & I tried for my last.. but the contractions were too close together & too hard - I was not getting any break inbetween.

    Boy 1 2/06 - Boy 2 12/07 - Boy 3 9/09
  • I was induced 6 days early due to protein in my urine. Got to 4 cm, water broke, everything was going fine, got epidural, then baby's HR started to plummet so I was rushed in for emergency c-section

Same here. Water broke and we waited all night for contractions to start. When they didn't, midwife had me go to hospital in the morning and start a little pitocin. I did have the natural birth I wanted. No drugs, just the pitocin to start my contractions. She was born sunny side up too. What book are you reading? I loved Ina May's Guide to Natural Childbirth!

I was 41.5 weeks.  He had made zero progress and the doctors in my practice generally induce around a week or a little more overdue.  I wasn't happy about it - I'd planned to go natural and did everything I could to get little rascal out before then but he wasn't budging.  I ended up with a c-section and he was born 12 days overdue.  When they lifted him out, his head was on his shoulder, so the doctor thinks that was why he never dropped.  Who knows.  I plan to try for a VBAC with #2.

Oh, and FWIW, when he came out, despite being 12 days overdue and his momma being 8lbs,15oz when she was born, he was relatively small at 7lbs,1oz, so I think he knew what he was doing by staying in there a little longer.

How far along were you? 38 weeks

Why did you get one? I was having 7-15 minute long contractions (nurse was shocked when she saw that...she thought I was overreacting) and I was bordering pre-e...blood pressure was "normal", but not for me.

Did you end up having a c-section or deliver vaginally? vaginal delivery

and if you wanted to go naturally were you able to? I tried IV drugs for the first couple hours but then the pitocin caused my contractions to go from 6-7 minutes apart to 1 minute apart within hours, but I wasn't dialating as fast.  I asked for an epidural, but then DD's heart rate crashed and they had to stop the pitocin immediately, which meant I had to wait for DD to be out of the woods.  Then I got the epidural, which I'm glad I did.  After an easy delivery, I had to go to the O.R., which since I had the epidural line still in, that process was quicker and less threatening.

  • I was induced due to preE at 37.5weeks. Did deliver vaginally but it took 33hours. I wanted to go natural but my contractions were coupling and I Went from 1 cm to 5cm in an hour and ended up getting the epi at 5cm. I would have 5 contractions back to back with no recovery, after a few of those I sad screw natural I want an epi. So induction sucked for me.

  • I was induced at 41w4d after failing a NST and then the bio-physical profile.  Hoped to go drug free (bradley), induced with pitocin, made it eight hours and got an epi, which was not as effective as one might hope, and which I blame in part for my fabulous tearing.  Kid was fine, it seems like the lack of movement was just bad timing of the tests.

How many weeks were you? Exactly 38.

Why did you get one?Low amniotic fluid.

Did you end up having a c-section or deliver vaginally? I ended up with a C-section. My daughter's heart rate was plummeting during contractions.

  • I was induced with both babies.

Baby 1 at 41 exactly because my doctor was concerned about my blood pressure.  I had drugs (thank goodness) and delivered vaginally in 12 hours.

Baby 2 at 41 weeks because I am a neurotic planner and wanted to have my parents here to watch DD #1.  I had a good experience with my first induction and found it easy and was happy to repeat it.  DD was 9 lbs 4 oz and I suffered from some complications due to her size so I was incredibly grateful to deliver at 41 weeks and not wait.  Again, I delivered vaginally with drugs and no issues.

  • I was 38 weeks.  I went in for my weekly visit and found out I had high bp.  The dr. told me to go get my things and check in to the hospital where he would induce me.  When I got there, I ended up having contractions but was given pitocin to speed it up.  So technically I wasn't fully induced.  I Delivered vaginally and wanted to go natural but made it to 8 cm and got the epi.  It didn't work though.

  • I went into labor on my own but it was slowing, and they ebded up putting me on pitocin. DS was too big for my hips, therefore c section.
  • induced at 39 weeks for pre-e.

admitted to L&D, manually dilated to 3 cm (by doc ... OUCH!) started pitocin, 2 hrs later at 10 cm (with epi), pushed her out in 8 mins.

SUPER successful induction and every one was ok... 9.5 lbs of beauty :)

I was induced on my due date, because I was not making ANY progress and DS was getting too big for me. I was planning on a vaginal birth and I was able to have one! I wasn't too keen on doing the induction, but at that rate I might have ended up with a c-section, and there's no telling how long DS would've taken Stick out tongue I'm glad because I am the first one out of my mom and aunts to have a vaginal birth!

  • Induced at 41 weeks due to raising BP.

After 30 hours of labor I only progressed to 5cms.

Had a C section due to the baby not tolerating the labor well.

  • Induced at 37w2d due to high blood pressure/borderline preE. Pitocin started at 7, Epi at noon, delivered vaginally at 3:30. DD was 8lbs1oz at almost 3 weeks early.

  • i was 39 weeks when i was induced because of gd. i had a vaginal delivery after about 8.5 hours of labor. i wasn't set on going natural so i had an epidural and ahhhh that was heavenly.
  • I was pretty much induced for both, so I'll give you both "stats" ;)

DD1 I was scheduled to be induced at 41 weeks. The day before, labor started but totally stalled and I wasn't dilating past 1.5cm. Since I had gone to the hospital and I would have come back the next day to be induced anyway, they started it that night (pitocin only).

DD2 I was scheduled because I was a week late (almost). She was 9.5 lbs at birth so I am so thankful that I was induced when I was, and not later! Also only pitocin was needed. No gel or anything since I was already dilated to 3.

With both girls: 40w6d. Vaginal delivery. Epi (planned).

    CP 3/07
    BFP 5/07 - Kylie born 2/08.       BPF 2/09 - Alexandra born 10/09.
TTC since 8/13 - diagnosed difficulty conceiving due to LP defect. Took vitamin B and Vitex Berry to help lengthen.
BFP 2/14 - Missed M/C found at 8.5 weeks. D&C at 9w2d. Partial Molar Pregnancy.
    BFP 11/14
  • 40+ weeks. Induced because I wanted my dr to deliver and did not want to give birth on christmas day. Ended up with a c-section.

How many weeks were you? Induced at 42 weeks, baby born 42 weeks +2 days

Why did you get one? Medically mandated due to being 2 weeks past due date

did you end up having a c-section or deliver vaginally?  C-Section

and if you wanted to go naturally were you able to?  Nope.  34 hours of trying, 2 hours of pushing, and ended in a C/S anyway.  Went 10 hours on pitocin w/o an epidural with a sunny-side-up baby (back labor) first too.

I always felt that the books I read, although I thoroughly enoyed them, might be biased, but the post below has me wondering.

This is me also. My water broke a day before my due date and I delivered by c-section on my due date.  Had a c-section because my water had been broke for too long and i guess there is a huge risk of infection.
  • I was induced at 40 weeks 5 days. I got one because I was 40 weeks and 5 days. I had a vaginal delivery after 36 hours of labor.  I was half heartedly trying to go natural (I wanted to see how far I could make it, I made it 12 hours and 2cm of dialation before they broke my water and gave me my epi)  After that, my blood pressure went really really low, and Levi's hearbeat was really low, so they backed off the pitocin for a while.  He was born vaginally after about 90 minutes of pushing a week after his due date.
  • I was able to be induced at 40 weeks on the dot because I had preterm labor and was contracting painfully from 34 weeks onward.  I had a horrible experience with my epidural being placed, but it was so strongly advised I have it before they break my water, I did get it done.  I did deliver vaginally.

Why did you get one? Suspected very broad shoulders/rising BP. In retrospect, it was a pretty BS reason...but at the time, I didn't care. I was done being pregnant. And when they strapped the monitors to my belly, we discovered that I was in labor already anyway! I was contracting regularly and had no idea. My cervix had progressed significantly since my appt the day before, and DS had dropped 2 stations. All I ended up needing was the lowest dose of pitocin for a couple hours...then my body took over and did the rest. So it turned out to be more of a kick-start than an induction.

did you end up having a c-section or deliver vaginally? Vaginally.

and if you wanted to go naturally were you able to? I was in the camp that said, "if I can do it naturally, great, but if not, I'm not afraid of the epi." Yeah, that didn't last long. My epi rocked.

  • I was induced at 38 wks. 3 days due to a medical condition. They started cervadil at 2:30 on Tuesday, moved me to Pitocin on Wednesday. DS was born Thursday morning via c-section...I gave up. I was 1 cm. when they gave me my c-section.
  • I was induced at 40w2d because we had concerns about DS's size (especially his head size).

I ended up with a c-section after pushing for 2 hours and a diagnosis of cephalopelvic disproportion.

  • I was induced. I was 41w. I was 1 week past my due date and my BP was high, so they didn't want me to go longer. I had a vaginal deliver. I didn't want to go naturally and didn't.
  • How many weeks were you?  Exactly 39 weeks when I was admitted.

Why did you get one?  I had GD and low amniotic fluid.

Did you end up having a c-section or deliver vaginally?  Vaginally.

And if you wanted to go naturally were you able to?  Didn't want to go natural, drugs all the way.  :)

I was 40 weeks, 1 day. I was sealed up like Ft. Knox and miserable, I asked for the induction. I did have a c-section, baby was posterior. I got to 9 cm and she would not come because of her position. I have read that posterior babies will eventually turn. I wish I had not be induced because of this.

Why did you get one? impending blizzard and dr practice induces at 1 week past due (turned out to be JUST in time...20 inches of snow the night he was born)

did you end up having a c-section or deliver vaginally? cervidil was place at 6pm thursday evening, 1am friday morning my water broke on it's own, only 1.5cm dilated 60% effaced, STRONG back to back contractions from 1am till 2pm stuck at 1.5cm, no drugs given until that point, then they gave me something to let me sleep (thank GOD, since I didn't sleep AT ALL the past night) by 3pm it was decided that A) I could go another 2-3 hours and see if I progressed or B) c-section then...I was adviced that I I probably wouldn't progress fast enough not to end in a c section anyways...3:54pm Nathan was born via c-section.

and if you wanted to go naturally were you able to? I had wanted to go vaginally but with drugs...was not to happy too have a c-section.
