NBR: Myrtle Beach, SC

DH and I are thinking of going to the beach.  We are considering Myrtle Beach, SC but do not know much about the area.  Just thought some of you may live in the area or go on vacation there.

What end is the newest?  Is is run down?  Overrun by teenagers?  Just trying to figure out because we really know nothing about it.

Thanks!

  • I've never been before but DH's family does a big extended family and kids vacation every summer there and have since he was little. We are going at the end of August.

  • I went there for my honeymoon but that was in February so it was not busy anywhere.  We stayed at a hotel on the beach and golfed everyday (sometimes twice a day).  Broadway at the Beach was a fun place to go out at night for drinking, dinner, dancing, etc.  Check it out online.  I want to say we were in the northern part of the beach but I really don't remember.

We loved it and would go back again but we love golf and that's the best place around for golfing.  I've heard the beaches are a blast and I'm sure you could find a quieter family beach if that's what you want.

    Have fun!

  •  Hi I used to live there and I have relatives that live there now. My aunt is the front manager at one of the ocean front hotels! I love it! I go back as often as I can and I'm actually going the end of July! Pretty much all the way down the coast is beautiful!!! I found North Myrtle Beach to be a little less crowded but not as nice, it's nice but not AS nice. You also should check with the local hotels because they have certain weeks that are nuts. They have a week called Senior week which is probably soon or just over where a whole bunch of teenagers come to the beach its super annoying don't go then. Myrtle Beach also has two bike weeks where the whole area is full of bikers everywhere. It's not horrible but it's ridiculously busy and SOME of the people get really rude and they just destroy the hotel rooms. Other than that is is a great place! I love it like I said and would recommend it to anyone. I usually hung out around Pier 14. I can't remember the dates of those three times but you could call any ocean front hotel and ask them and they'll be able to tell you or you can pm me and I can call my aunt and ask for you!

  • Central MB has a lot of construction going on. I'd either stay on the south end or the north end.

If you go, Nibils restaurant on the Surfside pier is really good.

  • north myrtle and myrtle are more 'touristy' than the more southern parts.  my fam has a house in garden city (south of myrtle) which is a less crowded area.  i would recommend broadway at the beach for shopping, murrells inlet area (south of myrtle) for great local seafood, surfside and garden city for slighty less crowded beaches.  there are great shopping areas (broadway, tanger outlets), water parks, golf courses and food (i would stick with the less gimmicky places).  pm me if you need some ideas.

if you don't want to do myrtle beach, charleston is lovely (where i live)  :)

  • I just got back from North Myrtle Beach. It was very nice! Wasn't crowded with teens or college kids at all! I think we're going to try to go back every year.
