He fell asleep in my DH's arms so he put him in the crib over 20 minutes ago, and he hasn't stopped crying.
I know naps are so important, and lead to better nights sleep. He just won't have it, or he falls asleep on the boob; which is not a habit I want to establish.
Help!
Re: My son won't nap. :(
My baby didn't start napping until about 2 weeks ago. Don't stress, it will happen!
For now, don't worry about "bad habits". It's important for your baby to nap. Sometimes the only way Jack will nap is if I'm holding him. Sometimes he passes out during tummy time. Sometimes I can put him down and he'll go right to sleep.
Try different things and see what works for you. Go for a ride in the car, give baby a bath/shower, or bounce a bouncer with your foot until it lulls him to sleep. If you continually try to make it happen, you will have some success eventually. Good luck!
We're having our own sleeping issues over here, so I'm not much help. but I did read in Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child that nighttime sleep develops first, over the first couple of months, and usually around the four-month mark daytime sleep starts to consolidate into a few longer chunks. The book says the morning nap is the first to develop (typically around 1.5 hours after waking in the morning, but anywhere from 1-2 hours), and then later a second nap in the afternoon, with sometimes a third short nap in the late afternoon/early evening, which eventually disappears.
DS is going though some sort of sleep regression right now, but up until a few days ago, he was taking a pretty solid a.m. nap (around 2 hours long). The rest of the day was still a crapshoot, though.
Hang in there! Your LO may start moving from catnaps in your arms to longer stretches of sleep soon. GL!
