? for moms of toddlers without a car

If you don't have a car, how do you get around town with your toddler?

Do you carry a convertible carseat with you at all times for public transportation, or do you lap them on trains/buses? What about cabs?

Just trying to prepare for an international trip to a large metropolitan area where we won't have a car & where public transportation/cabs are the norm ... but child safety isn't (therefore I can't expect to be accommodated with a convertible seat). Sigh.

Thanx!

  • On the rare ocasions I take BART into the city I sit him on my lap durring public transportation. It isn't like mommy is wearing a seatbelt either.

  • There aren't usually any belts on public transport because the weight of the vehicles is high enough that they are exempt, so a car seat is useless, unfortunately.

  • Yeah, I realized that on trains I've never seen belts. Most buses either. Just didn't really know about cabs.
