Regardless of the weight comment, strangers should know better than to touch a newborn! I would have slapped her hand, too, or shoved it away, or otherwise prevented said hand from pinching LO's cheeks.

  • are people on here really not capable of using their words? If someone reaches in to touch LO, I just nicely ask them not. Its really not that hard. No need to hit strangers.

Its innapropriate to try to touch someone's baby, but some people just don't know better. They aren't trying to be rude.

  • I'm sorry, but with an infant who is 3 weeks old, many of us are not our normal, calm and rational selves.  I know I wasn't.  I bet OP would not have this same reaction a month from now.  As for this incident, I think she may have overreacted a bit, but do I think  what she did was outrageous?  No.  Whether someone is old or not, doesn't give them (a stranger) the right to touch a child without a parent's permission.

Just like people have the right to blame their actions on pregnancy hormones?

    Yes

I went grocery shopping MANY times in that first month with Liam.  Did people touch him?  Yes.  Did I smack anyone?  Nope.  I did kindly deter someone's toddler from touching him on the face, and I did make copious use of baby wipes to discreetly clean off Liam's hands after being adored.

Regardless of if a stranger has a right to touch your child, you absolutely do not have the right to hit another person.  I can't believe this has to be said to an adult - hormones are not an excuse.  If her hormones are a problem, she shouldn't be driving a vehicle, especially with her LO.

If someone cannot handle the prospect of a stranger approaching their infant, then methinks they are not ready to bring their baby out in public.

Assume that everyone is an idiot and is going to try to touch your baby. It will help you prepare a plan that doesn't involve slapping and calling someone a fatty.

Last time I checked most women who have infants are more than capable of keeping their hands to themselves when frustrated. Hormones or not. If you don't want people approaching you/ oogling your child use a sling or cover the carseat with a blanket: problem solved!
