s/o hot meals on hot days

I do not understand the whole chicken stew on Memorial Day,/4th of July/Labor day thing.

I had never heard of it until I moved to this area, but I can't understand being outside, playing or swimming all day in 90 degree weather, and having to sit down to a steaming bowl of chicken stew.

Give me a hamburger, chips, and dip.

  • I guess they don't do that in this area.  I've never heard of it.  We always just grill things.

I've never heard of that.  Around here it's always cookouts.  Burgers, brats, hot dogs, chips and dip, pasta salads, deviled eggs, fresh fruit, etc.  Mmmm.
  • I like cooking stew on hot beautiful days. Because I can throw everything in the pot, then go outside, play for a few hours, then come back in and it's done.

  • Yeah, that's weird. I think of stews as cold weather food. Memorial Day/4th of July is all about grilling and cold salads.

  • Yeah, that's weird.

We have a few meals that get taken out of our rotation in the summer, and a few added in. I love stew but cannot fathom eating it when it is 100* outside.
