I have mirena...it hurt, but wasn't unbearable. Not even close to giving birth!! I cramped a lot the day afterwards but since then I have been fine. Good luck!
The placement wasn't bad at all for me. Having the speculum in for a bit longer than during a regular exam was pretty uncomfortable, but it was over pretty quickly. I cramped a bit afterwards, but I was perfectly fine by that evening. My doctor told me to take 2 ibuprofen before having the IUD placed, so maybe that helped me a bit.
It wasn't too bad for me. Similar to getting a pap smear, but lasting a little longer. And I had some cramping during insertion as well, but tolerable.

Overall, I'm very happy with the whole thing.
That's a good tip. I am getting one soon - thanks!
it wasn't too bad, just some strong pressure. I think it may have been a little more intense for me than for a lot of post-baby women because i neither had a vaginal birth nor was I finishing my period, so my cervix didn't exactly welcome it with open arms.
But i wouldn't say it was really painful. just crampy. and i did get a little light headed/sweaty just at the end of the procedure, which we attributed to my nervous system.
