father's day help needed - h and i are sep

Any ideas on what I should do for h since we are sep?  It's still Father's day so I wanted to have DS "get" him something - he got me flowers and choc dipped strawberries for mother's day "from" DS but he makes substantially more money than I do.  He doesn't drink coffee, wear ties, or anything like that so I don't know what to get him?  He's not real sentimental at all and DS's bday is close to Father's day so I want to budget my money wisely.  Long story short, the #1 Dad stuff just doesn't fit and wouldn't be appropriate but I want to acknowledge him so any ideas?  TIA

What about a two-fold or three fold frame with pics of your DS (with or without STBXH) and one of those filled with his handprint that is dated?

  • What about a nice framed picture of the two of them?
  • That's a great idea!  I could do a handprint, on some nice paper, even something like paper for a scrapbook to make it more colorful and then put that in a frame with DS holding a Happy Father's Day Dad sign and print that?

  • I was also going to suggest something with his handprint.  The framed idea is cute, but you can do anything- tshirt, baseball, plate/plaque, etc

Does he golf? If so you could make him a golf towel w/ DS's handprints on it.

  • You've gotten great suggestions already.

I just wanted to jump in and tell you that I really admire you for thinking to do this.  So often the animosity with separated or divorced spouses over shadows everything.  You're a strong woman with her eye on the prize of keeping things civil for your child's sake and I admire you greatly for that!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

This brought tears to my eyes - thanks.  I'm trying to be civil and he is still in the hurt phase and says the ugliest things - but I want to be able to say I was always respectful and that's what pushes me.  I want to be the person my son can be proud of.  H drank and never came home and said and did ugly things so when I had the opportunity to move back to be with family I jumped at it and had the support system I never had when we moved off and that's what gave me the strength to leave.  DS and I are living with my parents while I work full time and go to school full time to get my MBA so it's SO hard right now especially because H finally realizes we are worth something but he thinks a simple apology is enough to make all the hurt go away.  I think there is too much hurt to ever repair and I've been honest with him about that but he disagrees.  But he will still be super ugly to me and doesn't understand why him calling me names makes me want to run the other way - yet he tries to explain it away like it's because he misses me that he calls me the names.  It's a frustrating and upsetting mess!  I"m sorry didn't mean to vent, just got on a roll I guess.  Thanks again for your kind words.

  • What about a keychain that has LO's name on it?

  • I wanted to second that I admire you for this! I'm a divorce attorney and its amazing how many people can't get it together for their kids.  You are doing a great thing and your child will forever appreciate this.  I think one of the best things a child of divorce can say is that is parents did not bad mouth each other and respected each other.  Good luck with everything!!

What a great idea! Stealing this... but can you tell me where you find permanent paint for a towel? How would this work considering it needs to be washed all the time?
