Baby Names

Jamessa for a girl?

Have you heard this name before? I think I know how to pronounce it but was wondering what yall thought. I was tying to find names that could pass as a female version of James. I was thinking this could maybe work for a middle name.

We were thinking of somehow using his brothers names for middle names (they passed away from a house fire when they were kids) There names were Scott and James. I like the name Scott for a middle name for a boy, which is why I was trying to come up with something for James...

I don't really care for it, but I think it's a nice idea to honor DH's brothers.  Maybe you could use Scotti or Scottie (there was a post below where someone used/suggested that for a girl) and keep James for a boy?

  • Not a fan of Jamessa at all. I'd go with Jamie or James Even though I'm not really a fan of boys names for girls, I think it's better than a made up name.

I do like Jamie, it just didn't flow very well with the first names that we like.

  • I've never heard of it, and am not a fan (sorry).  I think if you want to honor James, Jamie might be a good option, maybe even Jemma (although I do prefer it spelled Gemma).

  • sounds made up and I really don't like it, i'd go with jamie

  • You could just name her James.  Or, you could use James for her middle name.  I have a friend who named her daughter Ella James where the middle name is after great-grandfather.

  • Not a fan at all of the name. I think it is a great idea to honor his brothers but why not just go with James as a middle name for a girl. I actually know several girls with James as a middle name and I think it is adorable. Especially paired with a nice girly first name.

  • I don't like it- but I had a friend in college whose name was Jamessina (like Thomasina but with James) and she went by Jamie.
  • Thanks guys, after looking at it for a bit I agree lol I guess after seeing that it was a real name I figured it would be okay to consider cause it wasn't made up. We obviously have plenty of time to think of other stuffBig Smile

  • I believe Jemima and Jemma are sometimes used as female forms of James.  I'd also consider Jane, or Jamie as others have said.

This! My friend is has James for her middle name, and it flows nicely. I always thought she was cool just based on that. Smile

ETA: I just did a google search for Jamessa, and the first two things to come up were MySpace profiles. I don't think that's promising.

  • I have a friend named Mary Scott. She goes by the double name. I'm not normally a fan of boy names for girls, but I think it's just precious in this case. You could do something like that for James as well. Just a thought.

  • I like the suggestion above of going with the name Jemma.. it's better than Jamessa IMO. Or you could go with James or Jemma as a middle name.

My grandma's name is Jessima, that's kind of similar. I thought that's what you originally titled this post when I glanced at it.

    Honestly, Jamessa is not good....

I went to school with a girl named Jama (pronounced Jay-ma), and sometimes ppl called her "James" as a nn.  She was very popular and pretty - maybe that woud be a good variation?

I like the name Jayma.  Jayma Mays is an actress on Glee.
