And just in case you don't have time to look that up right now, I'll tell you what is and is not acceptable in this situation.

It is OK to think to yourself, "wow that baby is not very cute."

It is NOT ok to come onto a message board full of new moms and say that there are pictures of babies on here that are so ugly you'd be afraid to wake up next to them.

Just because you say it may not bother you to have someone else tell you that about your kid (and I think at some level it would bother you whether you can admit that or not) does not mean that you should just go around spouting off whatever opinions you're thinking.

Please show me where I was participating in the husband bashing or approving of it? I merely stated that what she did was uncalled for and honestly knowing this board and stating things like she did and especially putting "flame away" you should know that people are gonna go in for the kill whether it's called for or not.

I have to admit, I'm a little surprised at how mean the thread turned, b/c when I read the original post, I didn't take what she wrote literally, just assumed it was to be funny (the afraid of waking up next to some of the babies)...

Agree. I don't know why she felt the need to post this, but I have actually read plenty of posts (on these boards) that say they don't think every kid is cute..I mean, my husband and I even used to say, oh man, what if our kid isn't cute? And we wondered if we would even know if she was cute or not, haha. (she is, isn't she?? Hmmm...) Though I have not heard anyone say they would be afraid to wake up next to an ugly kid. I am pretty sure she was exaggerating when she said that anyhow, I personally think people who got angry or offended overreacted a bit as well. But everyone is entitled to their opinion, the ones who are afraid to wake up to an ugly baby and the ones who are not.

I do agree a good deal of newborns are kinda alien looking, my own included, but it's pretty brief and I still don't think I'd go as far as to say they're ugly O.o just newborny. We've called DS our "benjamin button" since birth because he looked like a wrinkly old man

I love my kids to death, but when DS came out (2 hour birth - he was swollen, bruised, and purpleish because of the quick birth) DH and I were like "hm... boys sure are.. ... different looking" (since we'd had a girl before and it was a longer labor). But now I think he's just adorable. I don't love him any less for not finding him the most amazingly beautiful creature on the planet for a few weeks, though O.o

Call me crazy, but by feeding into her ridiculous comments aren't we all just adding fuel to the fire? Clearly, she's not all there if she makes such ignorant comments on a board entirely about babies. I'm just as irritated by posts by these, but I just feel that by giving them what the want (attention) that they feed off of it. Just a thought.

Eh... if your baby isn't ugly, then why do you care about what the OP thinks?

I think most newborns are ugly, and a lot of babies are. Mine isn't, of course. But a lot are. They are weird little things, babies. Precious, wonderful, ugly little humans. I love 'em, but they aren't always cute, and you all know that.
