unpopular opinion re laundry

I never minded going to the laundromat (I have a washer and dryer now). I always liked the fact that I got all my laundry washed and folded at once, as opposed to one load at a time.

Re: unpopular opinion re laundry

  • I did like that aspect of it.
  • Loading the player...
  • This is exactly why I don't mind.  I can get every bit of laundry done in 2- 2.5 hours.

  • I didn't mind it before I had kids.  I've been trying to figure out how I'd handle a laundromat, and the SEVERAL loads of laundry we produce each week, if I had to take them with me by myself, and I don't know how I'd manage it.  I'd have to put them in daycare for a morning or afternoon to get it all done without either leaving them in the car or in the laundromat by themselves while I haul loads in and out.
  • I think that was the part that I hated the most.  Well that, and waiting on one.last.load because it takes longer to dry or there aren't enough dryers etc.

I'd much rather do one load at a time and fold it in front of the tv.

  • I guess this makes me the only person who doesn't put clothes into different loads... it's everything I can fit regardless of color. LOL.

  • When our dryer broke a few weeks back.  I told DH it would be easier to go and do our laundry somewhere.  Instead we did it here and it tok two weeks to get caught up.  I freaking hate laundry.  I would much rather do it all at once.

I do this with 99% of our laundry.

Dude, drop off service!!!  Pay by the pound.  Those ladies can fold laundry like nobody's business.

Unless you mean a dry cleaner's I have never even heard of this.

  • I kind of miss not being about to use drop off service.  I also liked getting all my laundry finished at once when I did it myself.

Oh my gosh - almost every laundromat I have ever been to will do your wash for you. It does cost more, but wee is right. Your clothes come out so perfect.

    Stop it.

All the laundrymats here have drop off serivce.  Shove it in the bag, they weigh it, charge you by the pound and 6 hours later you go pick it up.

It is usually something like $5 + $0.65 per pound.

  • I think I am going to splurge next year when I actually have an income and start doing drop off...I freaking hate the laundromat.

How come none of the laundromats I've ever used have this drop-off service???  Hell there are days NOW that I'd pay for that.  Maybe I've just been going to the wrong places.

  • I always took a book.  I liked that I could sit and read and do my laundry in relative peace.

  • Leslie, you need to get on that STAT.

Are you close to Denver?  I'm thinking no, since you are close to Garden of the Gods, but it is a start.  They ARE out there.

    Denver Yelp

Close enough for a day trip?  Yes.  Close enough to take my laundry up there?  Haha no way.  The house we're in now is just over an hour from the southern city limits of Denver, and we'll only be about 15-20 minutes closer after we move.

  • that's what I figured, but there is no Yelp near you.  Look around, I'm sure they have something somewhere.

Oh I'm going to.  I doubt I'll use it often since we do have our own washer and dryer (and the new house has hook-ups too), but that would be awesome to be able to drop off a few loads of laundry when I'm swamped with other things and don't feel like doing it.

  • We rarely use it now since it would cost us $60 to get it all done, but believe I drop it off before we go to Ireland.  Makes packing so much easier when it they have it folded all teeny tiny already.

  • I didn't mind not having a washer and a dryer when it was just the two of us.

Now I am so incredibly grateful that our new place had the hookups so we could buy them.  Especially because I really wanted to use cloth diapers.

We always used it right before vacations.  It is amazing.

I suspect we'll still do it that way even with a washer and dryer.

Wash & fold = greatest luxury ever.

  • I just have one more thing to add:

Fluff and fold.  The only way to live.  *snaps*  I drop it off.  I pick it up.  It's a delight.
