Babies: 3 - 6 Months

My kid slept 13.5 hours last night and...

that's after I woke him up. I usually follow the rule, never wake a sleeping baby. BUT Whenever he sleeps too long he isn't tired for his usual morning nap time and then gets cranky and is hard to get down for a nap the rest of the morning. I usually end up having to give him a bottle early so he'll fall asleep.

WWYD? Just wake him up after 12 hours? I hate waking him up but I also don't want a fussy baby all day.

  • I want to punch you...I wish I had this problem. Lol. If you want, we can trade and you can come get up at 12:20, 1:20, 3:30, 5 and finally at 7am. Lol

I'd wake him.. DS sleeps 7-7 and if he was still sleeping at 7 I'd probably wake him up.

he also has 2 naps during the day and if he's still sleeping after 2.5 hours I wake him up otherwise getting him to sleep later is impossible

I'm not sure what to do because my DS has never done that, I just wanted to say that I am extremely jealous.  I was excited about the 8 that Cameron finally started sleeping.

Has he been working up to 13 or was it just all of the sudden.  I go to bed every night hoping that by fluke, my DS will just sleep till 8 in the morning!

  • Ryan did that a few days ago. I finally woke him up after about 13 hours of sleep. Partly because he needed to eat/get on with the day but mostly because I had worked the night before and missed him!

I like him to be up by 9:30 at the very latest. Otherwise his feeding schedule is all messed up and we only fit 4 bottles (instead of the usual 5) into the day and I feel like he'll starve or something.

  • Ugh....I'm jealous!
  • I haven't ever had that problem but I am like you, I would probably have to wake her up...that's a LOT of sleep and like you say, he would be cranky and hard to get down...Leighton usually sleeps from 9 to 6, so I don't usually EVER have to wake her up...LOL

He's been gradually sleeping longer. He's been doing at least 12 hours for about a month now.

Haha, mine too, except for the 12:20 wake up!

  • Allie sleeps 11 hours every night, and has gone as long as 15.  We never wake her, but it also has never affected her daytime either.  I don't have a schedule for her though.  If she wants to sleep 15 hours and skip a morning nap, I let her, no big deal.  Whatever she wants to do is what she does.  But she doesn't get cranky either or else I'd probably lightly wake her up.

Thanks! I think I will wake him. If he didn't get so fussy then I'd just let him sleep but when he gets fussy it messes up the some what of a schedule we have going for the day time.

  • We're like you...DS usually sleeps from 9pm-8am. If he's tired & still sleeping I'll let him sleep 'unill 9 (a full 12 hours) but no longer than that. If he sleep too late in the morning he won't go down for his regualr naps or get the same number of feedings each day. I don't keep him on a tight schedule, just try to follow a similar pattern each day.

  • I miss the days when my girl did that.  She went through the 4 month wakeful early and has never been the same.  She does still sleep 8-10 hours a night but not the 12-14 hrs she used to.  I guess I should just be glad she is still STTN.  Waking up every 2 hours would kill me!

Thank you!  Smile  The grass is always greener, her hair is always sticking up everywhere and I can't figure out how to keep it out of her eyes at daycare.

  • The longest DS has ever gone is 11hours.  This past Friday night.  It was heavenly becuse we'd had friends over and indulged in a little...ok maybe a lot...of wine.
