I'm trying to decide when we should boot the paci; right now she "needs" it to get to sleep. I know for sure that one of her siblings used her's until she was 3 1/2 & well I definitely don't want that.
At 14 months she still uses a paci to go to sleep. If she doesn't drop it completely by herself by 18 mos then we'll probably take it away at that point.
We didn't get rid of it until almost 21 months because she was using it as more of a teether but really chewing on it. I don't get what the rush is at 12 months though to get rid of it, DD would have been devastated.

DS only wants it when we go out (I guess like a security blanket) and at night. He doesn't use it to go to sleep but if he wakes in the middle of the night he wants it. We plan to wait until he is about 18 months to start working on getting rid of it.
Aidan still loves his, but he knows it stays in the crib and it's only for bedtime and naps. And with Baby Brother on the way, we're not getting rid of it anytime soon.

DD is 13 months and only has one in her crib. She takes it when she lays down for naps and bed but most of the time I find it thrown on the floor when I go in to get her up. We could probably take it out and I don't think she would make a big fuss but it doesn't hurt anything at this point in my opinion so we leave it in. We will proably work to get rid of it around 15 mo before the baby gets here when she is 18 mo.

Some nights she can to sleep w/o, others not so much. We have got it down to JUST the crib though, and occassionally as a sanity measure for the car. I need to just sack up though and cut it out in the car and the crib - I know she will probably cry a little, but it'll just be once or twice.
We ditched the paci at 7 months. It was the best thing we ever did, seriously. The transition was totally painless.
DD #1 passed away in January 2011 at 14 days old due to congenital heart disease
DD#2 lost in January 2012 at 23 weeks due to anhydramnios caused by a placental abruption
DD uses it only for sleeping at 15 months. I'm so glad you posted this...I thought I was way behind the curve in getting rid of it, but I'm happy to see I'm not
DD wouldn't take one until around 6 months, when we sleep trained her. She has only ever used it for sleep and sometimes she wants it when we get her out of her crib, but after a minute or 2 she drops it and we put it back in her crib. She's almost 15 months and I'm not sure when we'll get rid of it - maybe around 2? When she moves to a big girl bed? Haven't thought/stressed too much about it.
DD was never without her pacifier. We even had the little cute attachment thing to her shirt. After her birthday i noticed that she would misplace it and be ok about it. So one day we went to Sesame Place and I accidentally forgot to bring the paci. I thought that she was gonna freak out but she was great. I decided to not give it that night. She fussed a tiny bit but was fine. When she woke up in the morning I saw her looking for it. She started to cry but I distracted her and she as fine. We never went back!

DD will be 22 months on Thursday. We are weaning from day time use little by little. She went without it the entire day yesterday which is awesome. However, at night we still give it to her to sleep, and dont plan on stopping that until later.

My DD only used at naptime and bedtime, other than that we don't give it to her and that has worked for us since day one. We used to give in the car but just stopped one day when she lost it so I know she can do it but she likes it so for now I am fine with it.
Still have it, though I try to limit it to nap/bedtime and the car. But then inevitably I'll let him have it when he's super upset or when we're at the store so it keeps the peace.
He's almost 23 m.o. and still uses his pacifier. He only uses it when he sleeps except when he's teething really bad, which he is right now. I had hoped to ditch it by now, but to me the paci is better than having to give him teething meds. I hope we can ditch it shortly after his b-day.
DS is 17 months and working on his last tooth until his 2 year molars. After this one comes through, we are planning on getting rid of the paci. He only uses it for sleep and naps.

We got rid of Noah's right at 18 months. His daycare teacher did a great job of keeping it away from him except at nap time, but he was having it all the time at home, haha. He was pretty addicted to it! Our goal was always to get rid of it by 18 months, so we decided that we would start only letting him have it at night. He went all day without it at daycare for 2 days, not even using it at nap time, & only had it at night. He was doing SO well that we decided on day 3 to take it away altogether. He feel asleep fine without it & did great!! We had no problems whatsoever & it was seriously the easiest thing ever! I dreaded it & was terrified of taking it away, but I would have done it a couple months sooner if I had known how easy it would be.
If you are thinking of taking it away, I would advise you to try it & see how they do! You might be surprised like I was!
Em uses it for naps and bedtime. She's not obsessed and rarely has it during the day. (sometimes she'll get one in the car if it's around her nap time...but she doesn't seem to really need it!)

Barrett still has his paci (although less and less) at 21 months...

DS#1 Had a paci until his 3rd birthday! (He only used it at night. But still we should have gotten rid of it earlier!
)
DS#2 never used a paci.

we only allow the paci for naps and bedtime (always have) and she's 19 months.
since it's only for bed time i see no real urgency to take it away.

Aubrey still has hers and she's 14 months.
