After searching reviews and asking the mamas on the BF board I purchased the lansinoh double electric but I'm not going to open or use it till I know for sure I'll need it.. It's just sitting on the table near me for now till LO arrives
I bought mine before dd was born, but didn't open it until I knew I needed it. I had to pump in the hospital (dd was put in nicu), so I knew I could get milk by pumping. I really recommend renting a hospital one for a month, see how it goes, and then go for the big purchase. My sil bought one, opened it, used it a couple of times, and because of problems, couldn't pump. Almost 300 bucks wasted.

I also got this breast pump. I am thinking about opening it up and playing with it though.
bought a medela PISA on clearance for 190. i am *pumped* (pun totally intended!)
i used an old medela last time and it broke, so i bought a lansinoh and it just didn't work as well. so this time, i went for the good one, esp since i won't be able to SAH for the first year like i did with charlie.
I bought mine after I had my LO. She was about 3-4 days old when I went out and got it... and I had to get it because when my milk came in, my breasts were so engorged that my baby couldn't latch properly. So I had to pump a little bit before feeding her so that she could actually get on the breast.
I'm going to wait and make sure I can BF. I am thinking about buying a manual pump just to have (since they're so cheap). I've heard mostly negative feedback on them, but I'm thinking if I did need to pump so I could have DH feed her or something, it would be a start!
I bought the Medela Freestyle and haven't opened it yet. I am planning to take it to the hospital with me and have the LCs teach me how to use it...hopefully my milk will come in while I'm at the hospital.

personally, i got more squeezing my nips into a bowl than with the manual pump. totally tmi, i know, but it's true. (and there were a couple times that i literally had to let some off into a bowl, i had a serious overproduction issue!!)

Really? Wow, that's good to know! Maybe I won't waste my money then...
A friend gave me her Medela PISA, which she hardly used. And my hospital uses Medela, so I will even get all new parts for it, so the sterile parts thing isn't an issue. Everyone I know who has one LOVES it.
I plan on getting one on Monday at BBB with a 20% off coupon (expires Monday) and not opening it until I know for sure if I need it. That way I can return it if need be (fingers crossed that will NOT happen). I'd hate to have to run out and buy one if I need it right off the bat.
I would suggest doing what I did- I bought one a week or so before my due date but didn't open it. I made sure whatever one I bought could be returned for a full refund if un-opened.
I ended up having major latch issues, so I definitely needed a pump. BUT- 1. my insurance company paid for me to get one and 2. it was best to rent from the hospital at first b/c the hospital grade pumps are waaaaay more effective than the ones you can buy in a store (and that's important to get your supply established in the beginning).
