Why is the image of a (female, honored) religious figure on a product that helps a woman with her (normal) bodily functions viewed as disturbing? I understand the separation between church and 'gina, but I think that is one of the reasons I'm not a huge fan of many organized religions: the body is something that isn't discussed and sex and sex organs are viewed as "dirty" or "abnormal" to talk about. In ancient history [coughbeforechristianitycough] the female form was worshiped, the idea of menstruation and birth honored as sacred. It just bothers me when lovely, strong, women are irritated by values placed in their heads by a male-centered, religious-driven society.
And, c'mon. "Vaj Pad" is catchy, isn't it? "Vagina Pad" just doesn't have the same assonance. I mean, what is "Kotex?" "Tampax?" Sounds a lot to me like "Let's not talk about it."
Maybe if WE WOMEN weren't so freaked out about our bodies, then the rest of society would get with the program.

Re: My lil' feminist rant for the day, re: "disturbing mama cloth"
i don't feel comfortable bleeding on an image of any person, especially religious figures.
heck, i even feel weird bleeding on a pad that i have that has breakfast foods, including sausages on it... i still use it but...
And now I have to post and run b/c we're going out to dinner
Just keepin' it light here on a Wednesday...

Vaj pad is wrong, because it's wrong. Unless you're rolling it up into a dong-shape and inserting the Mother Mary's photo into your "vaj," it's a vulva pad.
I have an issue with *most* prints on mamacloth. Not because I find it somehow dirty, but rather because I don't want to associate Hello Kitty with my monthly flow (and the cleanup therewith).
Quite frankly, sitting on the face of any person (let alone bleeding on him/her) seems wrong, never mind a revered religious figure.
It's all just wrong.

Also, I really don't know anyone over the age of 15 who is freaked out about their body. I don't understand how thinking that it's wrong to bleed on the image of Mary translates into being freaked out about my body. It's not about freaking out, it's about respecting a revered image.
How would you feel if there was an image of a revered Muslim leader on a mamapad? Or Obama, for that matter? Would you find it offensive? Because I sure would.
ditto
I think getting a religious figure all dirty covered in blood is a bit of the problem, to me. For the same reason I wouldn't drag the image of one through a mud puddle.
As for "vaj". It's just not appropriate IMO. First, it's a vagina, not a 'vaj'. And even at vagina, it's not appropriate for all conversation IMO. I don't walk around talking about my parts, any of them. I know what they are and I'm not really embarrassed to talk about them if need be, but it's language that I like to just be common place. They are special parts
It is for me and my husband, my doctor and maybe a close friend or confidant should I need to talk about it. Also, kind of for the same reasons I wear clothes.

I feel pretty meh about it, honestly. But I'm also a dirty filthy heathen. I don't really have a problem with the name either, but that's because it's pretty common just to refer to all your lady parts at once, and people tend to just say "vagina." Whatever.
I DO agree with you that a lot of time the female body and its functions are seen as dirty and gross--it's not necessarily that opponents of menstruating on the picture of a religious icon (or any picture, for some people) are uncomfortable with themselves, but in the culture at large major disgust is shown for lady parts and specifically at menstruation.
I mean, douching? Calling a menstruation "The Curse?" Fish jokes? The fairly common trope (in a LOT of comedies, especially ones of the dudely variety) that while, hey the mens would like very much to have the sex with ladies and their lady parts, they don't really want to look down there because it is SO WEIRD and SO GROSS EW?
So. Um. Anyway. Soyager, Tiger Beatdown is a website. And I think you just might like it.
Word.
i agree that bleeding on almost any image is kinda disturbing to me. The Guadalupe Mary was just so far out that i had to share. I've also seen pads with cartoon characters, and those disturb me about as much as the mary.
And I am not freaked out or disturbed by my body at all in general. I think the fact that I'd even consider using mamacloth says that. Given what I've seen my body do lately, I'm totally in awe and amazement of it all. But I still don't want it doing its thang on pictures of anything more alive than maybe clouds or butterflies
OK, maybe a rainbow farting unicorn, but that's about as animated as it will get in my household.
::dies:: I don't really have an opinion... I just loved this little gem.
I'm not offended but I'm normally anti-pictures of people on my crotch. Bleeding or not.
I think I'm probably anti-the cupcake one, too.
I don't want to bleed on any religious icons. Period. Not Mary, Jesus, Buddah, the Dali Lama...none of them. It's just me.
The name isn't my fav but I also don't really like the name Glad Rags...because I for sure am not glad when my period shows up. I have cramps to beat all hell.
No pun intended, right?

And, um, the idea of Twilight pads freaks me the EFF out. That is all.
