Hi all!
As you can tell by the ticker, I am not tooooo far along yet but dh and I are thrilled beyond belief! This is our first pregnancy after ttc for a while. Lo will have one older sister, though-- our greyhound, Cleo
I am not totally new; I was a pretty active knottie in my day (about 2 1/2 yrs. ago) and I posted on the TTC boards a couple of times. I am very excited to be part of our little December community!
Second part, the question: Teachers, when are you telling your principal? I don't think I want to tell before the end of the school year (our last day is 6/25). I feel like if I wait until September (when it should be becoming obvious anyway) there will still be plenty of time to find an appropriate substitute for my maternity leave. Maybe tell a few weeks before coming back to school? Face-to-face? How are you going to handle it?
TIA

My little man at 0-1-2
Welcome and congrats!!!
I told my principal this past week. One of DH's best friends told one my co-workers, so I was afraid the gossip could reach him first. Also, my principal is great, I had no worries telling him but was going to wait till the end of the year. He was excited to see that our "Teacher Pregnancy Program" continues to be successful and told me that I do not need to do anything official until next year.
We also discussed my possible sub (someone that just retired) and is willing to do it. Fingers crossed that it works out. It would make life easier.

Our last day is June 11. I plan on telling sometime around then. I will hit my second trimester around then so I figure it's pretty safe and I will be showing by the time back to school rolls around so I don't feel comfortable just showing up obviously pregnant. My only issue is when to make the big official annoucement to the rest of the faculty (my school is big on celebrations). We won't be married until July so I am not sure if I want to annouce little one before then or just let everyone gossip about it on their own.
That must only be in your friends district because that is not how it is in mine. We don't have anything about pregnancy in our contract other than what the protocol is for maternity leave. But it is a good point to check your contract to see if it says anything either way. Also, I forgot to say earlier congrats!
Congrats!!
I told my AP last week only because I signed up for a lot of responsibilities which would include after school meetings and other people counting on me, so I had to tell her that I wanted to step down from those so that she could find a replacement in enough time. I'm still keeping the positions that won't matter so much if I'm not at school, I can check a website once a week from home and get the job done. I did it face to face. She is 5 months pregnant herself, so she completely understood.

Hmmm...maybe your friend works in my district, then! :-) Our contract says we have to give notice by the 4th month.
I am debating with this very thing! I think it would be a nice courtesy to tell before school ends for reasons others have mentioned. When I think about scheduling for next year, committees and placements, it does make sense. There are a few people at my school who are already suspicious that I am pregnant already! Since they know we are TTC and have been for a long time...and know of our tragedy in the summer of 2008.
So I think I am going to wait until after my NT scan (that's as far as I got last time)....and if that goes well and normal...I will tell then.
Welcome and congrats. I am also an elementary school teacher. I had to tell my principal and vp due to work restrictions from my OB. I am sped teacher and help with out of countrol students whom at times need physical restraint when they are out of control. Due to some spotting/bleeding I asked them both to keep quiet and have. If things continue to go well I may announce on the last day of school at the end of May, but still not for sure because I would still be a few days away from 2nd trimester.
Maybe she does...:) Does your district start with an L? Lol. I work in a district near by and no one has ever said anything like that, so I'm not sure if it is true in my district as well. I did tell one of my principals though only because I had to also tell the nurse because my office is right next to hers. Uhg!! I want to stear clear of sickly children as much as possible. The nurse said I'm probably pretty immune to everything though from working with kids so much.
My guess would be if it's in your contract, you'd probably know about it.. I hope so anyway. I think I will tell HR in the 4th month just in case.
