Moms with sons ?

Are your sons naturally drawn to you and prefer you over everybody?

I heard how sons are close to their moms while daughters are close to their dads.

I just want to hear how true this is or not. And DS prefers me over MIL if we are in the same room. So that makes me happy because there are times I don't like MIL.

TIA

Re: Moms with sons ?

  • Will is attached to both Corey and I pretty equally.
    I like privacy. A lot.

  • DS does prefer me over DH.

  • He prefers me over Dh for cuddling and consoling or when he just wakes up. He prefers Dh for wrestling. He's always been more prone to interact with women then men.
  • yes, but i don't think him being a boy has anything to do with it.  It's just me and him together all day for 6 days a week.

  • It's pretty equal when we're both here.  I'd probably lean towards me a little more just b/c I'm here (SAHM) with him all the time.

  • DS is quite the social butterfly and will go to anyone.  i don't know that he has a preference for DH over me, but he prefers me over MIL, which i like :)

  • I think that both of my sons are equally attached to us. And that's even with having my H deployed twice during our oldest life and once during our youngest life.

  • DS is a momma's boy... prefers DH for certain things and always makes sure I am not far away

  • He prefers me (I think part of it is because I'm a SAHM, and he's with me all the time). He is really attached to DH too, though, and wakes up saying "dada".

  • DS is a super mommy's boy... but that's probably because he's been home with me for about 80% of his life.

but as far as the relationships go, I was always my daddy's little girl, and my brother was definitely a lot more attached to our mom.

  • He is definitely a Mama's Boy. We are trying to get him more dependent on my DH so when the baby comes I am not stretched super thin.

  • I've got a Momma's boy.  BUT my niece is also very attached to her mom too, so I don't think it is just a boy thing.
  • I might be the exception... DH and I both work full time (I work 4 ten hour shifts, so I am home an extra day with DS), and I think that he generally prefers his daddy over me. There are moments when he'll come to me rather than his dad, but that's rare. Unfortunately (depending on how you look at it), he also has a hard time transitioning to me when I pick him up from his DCP and cries for her when we leave almost every day. This is getting better, but it still breaks my heart a little. Kids just feel the way they feel and I know that as he gets older, he probably have phases where he only wants mommy.
  • Logan is stuck to me like glue when we are home and I have a very hard time getting him to go to just about anyone else especially when he is tired, though when he wants to play rough he likes being with DH (being thrown in air and tickle fights seem to be more a daddy thing for him)

  • If it's between me and another family member DS will choose me. However if DH is around DS wants NOTHING to do with me for the most part. He's definitely daddy's boy.

  • I have the ultimate momma's boy and I do not stay at home. A few of my friends have momma's boys too.
  • My son is a total daddy's boy. My husband travels a lot and my son will not leave his side when he is home.
  • One prefers me, one prefers my husband. Both prefer either parent over grandparents or anyone else, but isn't that true of all kids?
  • With Dawson, that is totally false for us.  He completely prefers DH to me.  I think part of it is that he is home with me most of the week - he gets sick of me.  If he has a choice between DH and me, 9 times out of 10, he'll pick DH.  It bothered me (a LOT) when I first brought Wes home from the hospital, but otherwise it doesn't bother me too much.

It's too early to tell with Wes.  DH is hoping he attaches to me, I don't think he can handle juggling both boys.  :)

  • Yes

I have 2 sons and a daughter.  My youngest is especially attached to me, like he can't sleep without touching face.  It's bad, but I kinda like it Big Smile

  • My son is completely 100% attached to me
  • DS has days in which he prefers me and days he prefers DH.  I work 4 10hour days so I get an extra day with DS. However on my work day DH does a lot of the dinner and evening routine. DS does prefer my mom over MIL but that is probably because my mom watchs DS 1 day a week and MIL only does an occasional sitting.

  • DS is attached to both of us fairly equally - although he tends to prefer me if he doesn't feel well and MH for playtime.  I have also noticed he seems to prefer whomever he's spent more time with that day (this is only on weekends).  If MH is busy on a Saturday and I spend more time with him, then he'll kind of shun MH when he gets home and vice versa.

  • He is usually attached to me like a monkey to a tree, yes.
There are times he misses and wants DH or other family members, but at the end of the day, he always wants his mama.

  • DS loves me. He gives me kisses and hugs as often as he can. and "snuggles" with me in bed when he naps in our bed.

He's starting to "warm up" to FI (his dad) more now. I tell him to be nice to his "dadda". I guess b/c FI and him play so rough, he just always treats him less "lovey-dubby".

  • He is equally drawn to both us.  I think their younger years kids flip-flop back and forth about who they are attached to.  I think the stereotype with parents gender comes into play when they are much older.
  • My DS def prefers me over DH and everyone else

  • definitely prefers me over dh, but is wary of any other women. it's weird - he seems mostly comfortable around men.

  • it used to be all about me, but lately he is a daddy's boy. he is fine if DH isn't home, but if he is, well...i am second rate :-)  DS is also a major grandpa's boy! poor MIL gets the shaft if FIL is anywhere around!
  • DS is a complete Daddy's boy right now.  I was always closer to my mom and my brother to my dad.  I think it totally depends on the kid (and probably the parents too).

  • Nope. DS is naturally drawn to DH. Then me. Then my mom. He has only seen MIL 3 times.

  • Nope.  DS adores his father.  I'm chopped liver next to him.

  • Big mama's boy.  He always has been.  He would choose me over anyone.

However, he LOVES his daddy and asks for him all the time when he is not home.

  • 1000% true.

Rylee naturally loves her Daddy, and Kai loves me.

:)  I mean, they both love each of us the same, but do really seem to have a preferance.

    Rylee - 3.28.08
    Malakai - 8.3.09
    Ezra - 12.1.11 ASD
  • I think DS really only prefers me in 2 cases: if he's hurt (like if he bumps his head, he right away runs to me ignoring everyone on his way) and before bed. For some reason, no matter who is reading or giving him milk, etc. he always reaches for me to hold him before I put him into the crib. I think this totally rocks :))

  • DS2 is  a straight up momma's boy,  but DS1 is/never was.  He's preferred us equally.

  • lol, no, DS doesn't really prefer me to anyone other than perfect strangers. He definitely prefers DH to me (unless he's hurt or sick, then he only wants me), he prefers my mom to me and my FIL to both me and DH. I guess I might be in his top 5 people.

I actually think me being a SAHM has made DS like me less. I think he gets tired of me and jumps at the opportunity to hang out with someone else. I'm not really hurt because frankly, I feel the same way sometimes!

  • He is a definite mama's boy. However, I don't know if that is because of his gender, his personality, or something else. And I don't have a daughter to compare it to.
