This is something that keeps popping into my mind. I keep thinking I'm way early but I don't know. I basically know who I want based on recommendations. I want to call to see if she is accepting new patients but she might be now but not in July. I just have no clue!

Uhm...i'm still doing this.
I interviewed one last Fri and have another i'd like to see. Basically, I had the 2 lined up based on recommendations and called the,. They suggested I come in and meet doc.
I'm working on this now. I asked my ob for recommendations as well as some neighbors. When we were at our newborn class 2 weeks ago the nurse said "what are you waiting for??" when we said we didn't have one yet! I didn't know that your ped needs to check the baby out of the hospital!
I guess I'll call and ask if they are taking new patients. If so, I think they will tell me what needs to be done?? I don't know about interviewing them though - this practice has a lot of docs so we'd never have the same one anyway. I don't even know what I'd ask.

I decided on one based on recommendations and called them around 36 weeks to make sure she was taking newborn patients. Since one can never say when the baby will come (even though I had an induction date) they told me to call and schedule the first appointment after he was born. He was seen by a pedi in the hospital (45 minutes away) and that pedi said to schedule his first checkup at one week. I called the pedi I chose and told them his hospital pedi wanted him seen at 1 week and made the appointment.
I do not know how this would work if your pedi has privileges at your hospital. Because our hospital is not in our hometown we had that pedi recommended by my OB.
