  • 1.  Was LO early, on time, or late?

I went into labor the evening of my due date...had her the following morning

    2.  Did your water break before L&D?

    No.... the nurse broke it.

    3. Were you induced?  And if so, with what method(s)?

    Nope

    4.  Did you end up with an unplanned C/S?

Almost...her heart rate dropped down to 60bpm...twice.  It happened when I was laying on my back getting examined, I probably put weight on that vein you hear about which caused her to pass out.  They had me sign the paperwork in case they had to wheel me into the OR.  The nurse put me on oxygen and had me lay on my side which got her back up to normal.  I stayed on oxygen the rest of the time, anytime I would take it off her heart rate would change.

    5. Did you use any pain management drugs?  Which ones?  Side effects?

I had an epidural at 4cm.  It was MARVELOUS!  Side effects after the birth when they removed it was the shakes and my torso itched like crazy.  I felt like I had 1000's of bugs crawling on me.  Anti-itch lotion came in handy with that.

    1.  Was LO early, on time, or late? Born 12 days early

    2.  Did your water break before L&D? Water started to trickle, after 7 hours I wasn't contracting on my own.

    3. Were you induced?  And if so, with what method(s)? More or less since my water broke but I wasn't having contractions - lots of pitocin

    4.  Did you end up with an unplanned C/S? Nope

    5. Did you use any pain management drugs?  Which ones?  Side effects? Epidural.  Side effects : got to rest, didn't feel any contractions - awesome! I also couldn't feel when it was time to push so I was suprised when I was told I could push and then had to be told when to push - but she was out in 40 minutes, so I have no complaints at all!!

     GL to you!

  • 1.  Was LO early, on time, or late?He was born at 41w3d 2.  Did your water break before L&D? Nope 3. Were you induced?  And if so, with what method(s)?I trusted that my body knew what it was doing when it didn't go into labor, and so I opted for a planned c/s rather than pump all those hormones into my body.  But, to each their own.  I'm personally very happy that I didn't try to give birth vaginally as DS was born with a birth defect.  He could have died if I'd given birth vaginally.  Sometimes, it's OK to trust your body -  I read so many women say, cervix=fail, and boobies=fail, I truly believe that there's a biological reason these things don't work out "perfectly."4.  Did you end up with an unplanned C/S?Nope, it was planned. 5. Did you use any pain management drugs?  Which ones?  Side effects?I had the spinal they usually give you when you have a c/s.

  • 1.  LO was 9 days early

    2.  My water broke the morning she was born, but I wasn't dialated or effaced at all (it was a slow leak).

    3.  Since I was 0 dialated, 0 effaced, and no real contractions, I was put on pitocin to try to get something started.

    4.  My body refused to go into labor even though my water broke and I had made no progress after pitocin so we had a C/S.  It wasn't my preference but I'm completely happy with it now.

    5.  I had a spinal block for my C/S.  No side effects and it wore off an hour or two after the surgery.

  • 1.  Was LO early, on time, or late?
On time, I guess - I went into labor only 2 days after my due date (and I was 0 cm dilated at my 40 weeks, 1 day appointment)

    2.  Did your water break before L&D?
Nope - they broke my water for me

    3. Were you induced?  And if so, with what method(s)?
    No

    4.  Did you end up with an unplanned C/S?
    No

    5. Did you use any pain management drugs?  Which ones?  Side effects?
I had an epidural - no side effects

  • 1.  Was LO early, on time, or late? DS 1-born at 42 weeks DS 2- born at 39 weeks

    2.  Did your water break before L&D? no and no

    3. Were you induced?  And if so, with what method(s)? DS 1 I had my membranes stripped, DS 2 was ready to come out on his own

    4.  Did you end up with an unplanned C/S? DS 1 yes, after dilating to 10 I pushed for 4.5 hours he never budged and we both started declining so Em. C/s. DS 2 I had a scheduled c/s but he came early so I was fully dilated by the time I got to the OR (which SUCKS)

    5. Did you use any pain management drugs?  Which ones?  Side effects? DS 1: got an epi at 7cms. only took on one side and wore off before I got to 10. Stadol was nice quick relief, but left as quickly as it came. we went in for the c/s and the med didnt kick in as quickly as they thought and I felt them start to cu right before everything went numb.

ds2: (I didnt know this ahead of time so I try to spread the word) Spinals tend not to take if your 10 cms... mine didnt take, it basically all settled in my left butt cheek(which is still numb) so I had to go completely under.

  • 1.  Was LO early, on time, or late?

    He was one day late

    2.  Did your water break before L&D?

No, the doctor broke my water

    3. Were you induced?  And if so, with what method(s)?

I was induced the day after my due date. I was given pitocin to induce.

    4.  Did you end up with an unplanned C/S?

I had an emergency csection b/c the babies heart rate was dropping.

    5. Did you use any pain management drugs?  Which ones?  Side effects?

I had an epidural 15 hours after labor began. I would do it earlier next time. My only side effects were that I was very cold and my nose was itching really bad in recovery.

  • 1.  Was LO early, on time, or late?

    9 days late.

    2.  Did your water break before L&D?

Yes - but after I was given pitocin.

    3. Were you induced?  And if so, with what method(s)?

Yes - they gave me two doses of cytotek (sp?) to progress me (I was only 1 cm dialated and a quarter effaced) followed by pitocin to start the labor process.

    4.  Did you end up with an unplanned C/S?

    No.

    5. Did you use any pain management drugs?  Which ones?  Side effects?

I had planned a waterbirth at the hospital - which you can't have an epidural for - but because of pregnancy-related hypertension, I couldn't do that. I tried to hold out from the drugs...I was given demerol first, which did absolutely nothing to alleviate the pain for me and then an epidural when I asked for it. The epidural made me a bit numb but I was able to move my legs - one was a little sloppy because it was more numb than the other one. What was kind of cool is that there was a spot on my stomach in which I could feel the contractions (but they were not painful), so I knew when to push before the nurse would tell me I was having a contraction from looking at the monitor. Thank God for epidurals is all I have to say. I don't consider myself intolerant when it comes to pain but I'd never experienced anything close to labor before. However, don't let me scare you - it's different for everyone and you'll get through it. GL!

    I'm just curious:

    1.  Was LO early, on time, or late? A little early- 37w4d

    2.  Did your water break before L&D? Yes at 3am in bed

    3. Were you induced?  And if so, with what method(s)? no

    4.  Did you end up with an unplanned C/S? yes- actually had a version scheduled for the same day to try to flip DS. He had other plans!

    5. Did you use any pain management drugs?  Which ones?  Side effects? They gave me Nubain (narcotic) in triage. The contractions were still excrutiating! Made my BP plummet, and I got very dizzy and hot and sweaty. They had to lay me on my left side and put cold washcloths all over me. Also, possibly the cause of "shallow respiration" in DS after birth (not a big deal. he was just monitored a little while (less than an hour). He still got 8 & 9 APGARS- c/s babies can't get a 10). For c/s had a spinal. barely felt anything, but it did make me nauseated. They gave me something else for that. Not sure what, but it worked.

    TIA!

    2.  Did your water break before L&D? Nope the hospital broke it when I was 5 cm

    3. Were you induced?  And if so, with what method(s)? Nope, I was preterm labor but they did give pitocin when I got to 5 cm. I'm not sure why becuase I was progressing really quickly anyway.

    4.  Did you end up with an unplanned C/S? No,

    5. Did you use any pain management drugs?  Which ones?  Side effects? I had Stadol for pain soon after I arrived and I hated it.  I felt totally high and out of control.  I did NOT like that feeling and I asked them to not give me anymore.  It wore off after an hour or so.  I had an epidural when I got to 5 cm and it was HEAVENLY- no side effects except my back itched for a few days where the tape was on my back.  I may have been allergic to the tape or something.  I loved my epidural!

    I'm just curious:

    1.  Was LO early, on time, or late? He was born at 37 weeks and 5 days. 2 weeks early.

    2.  Did your water break before L&D? Yes my water broke at midnight on Thursday night and he was born at 1:35 on Saturday afternoon. 37 hours later.

    3. Were you induced?  And if so, with what method(s)? I ended up having to get pitocin after 15 hours of labor and contractions that were not getting stronger or closer together.

    4.  Did you end up with an unplanned C/S? No but only because my little man's heartrate was so steady the entire labor. My labor could very easily have turned into a C/S had his heart rate been less steady. They only let me labor as long as they did because of his response.

    5. Did you use any pain management drugs?  Which ones?  Side effects? I made it 15 hours without drugs. But as soon as they got the pitocin higher than 7 I caved and got the epi. I tried very very hard to go natural but thank goodness I got the epi. My labor lasted another 20ish hours after getting the epi, and I wouldnt have made it just from the exhuastion.

  • 1.  Was LO early, on time, or late? Late - she was born at 40w6d.

    2.  Did your water break before L&D? No.

    3. Were you induced?  And if so, with what method(s)? I had a failed induction. Since I had not begun to dilate on my own, I was given Cervidil to get things started. It didn't work.

    4.  Did you end up with an unplanned C/S? Yes.

    5. Did you use any pain management drugs?  Which ones?  Side effects? I was given a spinal for the c/s and then was given tylenol with codeine afterwards. I didn't have any side effects.

  • 1) late. I gave birth at 41w 2d

    2) no. They had to break my water

    3) Induced: first with cydatech (sp?) then 24 hours later, with pitocin

    4) nope

    5) I had an epi after 33 hours of labor. I gave birth 3 hours later. After the epi, I went from 6cm to 10 cm in 3 hours (after being stalled for a long time before that). The only side effect was that my back was a bit sore (where the epi was inserted) for a few hours after it wore off. But it wasn't bad.

  • LO was one week later but it was my original due date so really he was on time. Water did not break but I went into labor naturally. I had a vaginal birth and had the epidural. No side effects from the epi, I loved it!!

Yes, actually it was my first sign of labor, I barely had any contractions beforehand either. It was so surprising, I thought I peed myself, and for me it was more of a constant trickle than a gush3. Did you use any pain management drugs?  Which ones?  Side effects? I ended up with a dose of Stadol towards the transition phase of labor. It took the edge off the contractions, but I could still feel them. It also made me very light-headed and loopy (as if I were drunk) but it allowed me to lay down and 'sleep' for almost an hour, which was exactly what I needed.
