Any single moms out there??

How the heck do you find time to take a shower???

DH is gone for a few days and I cant figure out how to work a shower into my routine.   DS really isnt on a schedule so I am afraid that if I try to sneak one in while he is sleeping...as soon as I jump in the shower he will wake up and start screaming.

I dont know how you ladies do it, but I truly admire you brave single moms!  hehehe  This is TOUGH!

Can you put the bouncy seat in the bathroom during your shower?

  • DD is not a fan of being set down, but the one place she'll tolerate it is in the bathroom.  I bring her bouncy chair in, turn the exhaust fan on, and between that and the running water she's able to chill out.

  • I take the video/audio moniter with me when DH is not around to watch LO.
  • In the morning after LO eats, I lay her on her activity mat/gym thing...turn on nick jr and she's good while i take a shower. however, we have an open bathroom with no door and a glass shower, so I can see her the whole time I'm in there, but it doesn't matter...she's usually good for about 20-30 minutes before she wants to be picked up again.
  • I was the same way for a while, but I learned quickly that you can not NOT take a shower. After his morning bottle he will most likely fall back asleep so I put him in his crib and jump in the shower. If he is crying when I get out its ok, he is in his crib and a little crying never hurt a baby. I think LO would much rather cry a little so you can smell good than have a stinky mom. =)

  • I put LO in his bouncy seat or car seat and give him a bottle and prop it up with a pillow or blanket and set it close enough to the shower so that if the bottle falls out or he chokes I can quickly grab him or the bottle. That or I give him his paci and take a recieveing blanket, put the edge barely over his paci and tuck the blanket behind him on both sides so it holds the paci in. I make sure whatever I do that his nose is completely uncovered and he is in arms reach.

The bouncy seat trick works for me every time when DH isn't around to hold him.
  • No but I feel like it sometimes - DH has a broken leg so he can't help much.  Either in the bouncer where he can hear me or I use the audio monitor and that way I know whether I can take my sweet time in the shower or if I need to speed things up.

  • I'm with the bouncy seat moms... when DH isn't home to watch her, I put her in the bouncy seat in the bathroom after her morning feeding.  She generally sleeps for a while after that first feeding, so I'm able to shower, dry/straighten my hair, and put on my makeup before getting her as ready for the day as a 12 day old can be :)
  • When he falls asleep I set him in his crib. Wait a few minutes to make sure he isn't going to wake up after I've set him in and then get in the shower. So far I've had him sleep like this through all my showers except the first week when my mom was here to help me so I've been lucky.
