Ok, so I am getting impatient and Cytotec didn't work for me. I am 9w2d today, and I have a sac that measures around 5 weeks. My doc estimates that it's not been viable for around 3 weeks, maybe 3.5 weeks. How long could it possibly take for my body to either reabsorb it or for me to naturally miscarry? My uterus is clearly holding on to it as the Cytotec did nothing for me, and I had a true "missed miscarriage" as I had no spotting, bleeding cramping or ANY warning whatsoever. I can probably wait another week or two AT THE MOST - is it unheard of to walk around for 5 weeks with an unviable pregnancy??

Re: What's the longest you've waited to miscarry naturally?
From what I've read, I'm not typical. I wonder if you'll follow a similar path, though...
Did your doc tell you anything about why a missed miscarriage as opposed to SOME kind of indicator?
When you took Cytotec, did you have any cramping or bleeding at all? I had horrible cramping the first night and some red spotting the next morning but that was it. Next night, I had no cramps, no spotting - nothing at all. My doc upped the dose to 600mcg (instead of 400) but I haven't taken it yet.
So three days light spotting, three days really heavy bleeding and bad cramping (only in the evenings for some reason) followed by moderate bleeding and cramps for one day and then several days of light spotting.
Has your doctor taken your HCG level? Also, did you notice your symptoms going away? I had been feeling much less tired about a week before the spotting started. I assume that was from dropping HCG levels.
I'm really rooting for you this weekend. I was just thinking about you and wondering how things were. Hopefully it will happen for you soon, if not you may want to consider setting the date for the D&C.
Big hugs and keep us posted.
(((lots of hugs)))
enter the harbinger of doom...
It actually didn't take me long to start bleeding (12 days post diagnosis) however, if you think about it, since my baby died at 6 weeks and I didn't miscarry until 11 weeks, I did hold it inside for 5 weeks. Seriously, if your hCGs are still going up and the drugs did nothing, you may need a D&C. It kind of depends on how long you are willing to let this go on. If I hadn't started miscarrying on the day of my u/s I would have scheduled a D&C and been over the stupid thing. Instead I miscarried naturally and bled for....TWO MONTHS!! I really wish I got the D&C every day I put on the pad, day after day after day. If nothing happens this weekend, I would schedule another u/s and hCG and if there is still no progress, schedule the D&C. Unless you are dead-set against it, it will get this whole process over with and give you some closure. The waiting to m/c was (as I'm sure you can agree) one of the hardest parts. HTH
how did your dr prescribe the miso? first time the dr had me take it like a normal tablet, swallow. but i think it works better sublingually (dissolve under the tongue) or vaginally. also, you are supposed to repeat after 3 hours up to 2 times (3 doses all together). 600 -800 mcg (usually 3-4 tablets).
it took me 3 weeks to mc. 10 days after the first dose and 5 days the second.
if i could do it over again (not that i ever want to), i would do a d&c.
