Babies: 3 - 6 Months

What's on your baby's feet?

So, I put socks on DD everyday. She normally has on a top, pants and socks, the socks normally match the outfit in some way. I have a couple of pairs of shoes for her, but she only wears them with certain outfits or when I am wanting her to look extra cute.

However, I am thinking that as the weather gets warmer here (in Central Texas we are normally in the 90s by the end of April) that I should let her go barefoot most of the time to help keep her cool. I've also noticed that a lot of the babies at her daycare are barefoot all the time.

So, my question is, what does your baby wear on their feet? Shoes, socks, combination?

  • Just socks but will probably need to go barefoot soon since I live in FL.

  • He wears socks that match his outfit, he rarely wears shoes. I actually just got him an adorable pair of sandles that look like birkenstocks so he will probably wear those soon too!

  • Usually matching socks.  Shoes every once in a blue moon.  Now she has no socks on cause it's like 75 outside and I'd put a blanket on her if we went in the car.  I figure, if I'm wearing flip flops, she'd be comfy with no socks, lol.
  • Almost always socks, occasionally shoes (for professional pics/holidays/extra cute outfits) and sometimes she goes barefoot when she can kick the socks off Big Smile.  I think during the summer I'll let her go barefoot often, she's not into socks too much!

  • Depends on the weather.  It's cold today (40s-50s), so he's wearing a sleep n play with socks.  During warmer weather, it's pants and socks, with shoes for cuteness sometimes (60s-70s).  Once it hits the 80s, I'm thinking just socks or socks and sandals.  Poor dorky baby, but he won't notice....

  • Usually just socks; she only has about 100 of them.

We're in Austin. He's been barefoot at home recently since it's in the high 70s/low 80s. When we got out in public, he wears socks.

  • Socks, but when it warms up a little more she'll go barefoot. :)

  • We save shoes for church or special occasions (cute outfits) mostly. He'll wear socks most of the time, but we're definitely barefootin' it more these warmer days. I have been waiting to let him go barefoot since he's born!! I love when they try to eat their toes- it's adorable!
  • White socks...they match pretty much anything DS wears.  I have a couple of pairs of shoes, but he's never worn them.

  • If we're out and about socks and shoes. At home just socks and when it gets warmer (we're up to 70 today but supposed to get back down in the 50's in a couple days) he'll probably go barefoot and we have sandals for him when we're out and about.
  • She really has only worn socks. She has yet to wear a pair of "shoes" other than cloth booties.

I plan on letting her go barefoot in the warmer weather since she loves her feet bare.

  • I almost always just do socks to match her outfit...but DH HATES her in just socks so if he is dressing her, she gets shoes...the girl has 2 shelves full of shoes...they are cute, but kind of pointless since she doesn't walk..LOL
  • He's worn shoes, like, twice. Usually wears socks that coordinate with his outfit.

At the moment he's barefoot...we just got back from a walk and we're pretty warm!

  • Sometimes socks...sometimes barefoot.  We don't have any shoes for her right now.
  • Socks.  And I'm crazy about the fact that they have to match his outfit.

With us, he can go barefoot...but at daycare he's got to have something on his feet.  Especially once he starts crawling/walking.

  • socks until it warms up then barefoot! his little piggys are so cute i can't wait!

  • She usually wears socks since ALL of her shoes still fall off of her feet.  But now that it is getting warm, she is barefoot with hot pink toe nails!!

cute! how did u manage to do that? was she sleeping?

  • If we go out, I put socks on her, and sometimes shoes. Unless it's really warm out, then I might put on sandals, or nothing at all. If we're just at home, then she might not get socks on at all through the day.
  • Ok I'll be the odd ball. DS is always in shoes and has only been out of the house once without. The only reason was because, although he only has 2 pairs, I couldn't find the ones that matched his outfit and didn't want him mismatched. We only get Cater shoes or something so they're not expensive and he has just outgrown his NB ones. For the summer, we'll probably get sandals or something. To me an outfil looks imcomplete without footwear.

  • My friend is a pediatrist and said absolutely do not put shoes on your kid unless they are walking where their feet need protected (so no shoes until walking) and then don't buy cheapies, it can effect the way their feet form and cause problems later in life....

that being said...I have the cutest little gym shoes LO wears every now and then Zip it! Just not when we go out with that friend!

  • Usually just one sock because the other always falls off and gets lost.

I'm using a product called "Piggy Paint" https://www.wishuponachild.com/item_554/Piggy-Paint-Forever-Fancy.htm

It is a non-toxic nail polish and I use their non-toxic remover as well.  It was given to me as a baby shower gift

  • Socks (love the Trumpet Too and one of the other non circo brands from target for their ability to stay on!) or robeez.  We have 3 pairs of robeez so far and love them - no socks needed and they stay on and DD doesn't mind them.  It's mostly still winter here, so...we only go barefoot inside our place.

Phew you had me sweating for real! I have seen so many moms paint their babies nails with REAL nail polish. Thanks for giving me the link. I can refer my patients to that. I have a lot of patients in derm allergic to nail polish because of the chemicals.
  • Unless we are going somewhere, nothing.  His feet are a huge source of entertainment these days.

And if we are out & about and he gets fussy, the socks are the first thing to go.  Nine times out of ten it calms him right down.

  • Usually just socks, sometimes the leather booties that we got him but now that its getting warmer I skip those.
