formula/breast milk & solids. I introduced at 5 months if that makes a difference. I thought solids is supposed to be just fun and most nutrition is supposed to come from the formula or breast milk but my babies over the past two weeks aren't interested in the bottle unless going to sleep (I had to say goodbye to EASY). They each eat a stage 2 jar and sometimes split another of food. Or I combine a veggie jar and some meat and then go into a second one. Typical schedule.
7 or 8 am 2 ounce medication bottle followed by cereal and a jar of fruit (stage 1 because they don't eat much in the morning even after STTN). I tried to space out the breakfast after bottle but they want it right away.
9:30 4 ounces before nap
around 11:30 or 12pm lunch, a jar of stage 2 each and split another, sometimes a few jars mixed together
1:30pm 5-6 ounces of forumula before their afternoon nap
4:30pm 5-6 ounces of furmula
5:30 or 6pm dinner, same as lunch
7:30pm 5-6 ounces of bottle before bed
they STTN and sometimes barely want 5 ounces of formula, may be done after 3 ounces.
Are they getting enough, or too much? Honestly, there are times where my son eats 2 jars alone and taps into a third.
Also, can I introduce cottage cheese yet? What about baby yogurt?
And finally, I bought a jar of beef/vegetable and when I got home realized there's tomato in it, is this OK to serve? TIA
Re: I know this is asked a lot, but how much does your 7-8 month old eat (and other questions)?
DD is a bad example but she drinks expressed bm during the day and still hates the bottle so she has maybe 10-12 ounces a day, then nurses all evening. She's also a light solids eater. She's never gotten close to finishing the equivalent of a jar of baby food (we do BLW though). Some days she'll eat a lot, the other night she had more spaghetti than I thought she'd eat, but most days it's just milk feeds. Sounds like your kiddos want more though and I think it's fine to follow their lead.
re: the tomatoes, we've been giving them to DD and it's been fine. She had some curry two weeks ago that was tomato based and the aforementioned spaghetti (which was just our dinner cut up small for her). Her butt got a little red after the curry (could have been the tomatoes or the spices) but she seemed to have no trouble. She's also been eating yogurt and yogurt melts for a few weeks.
Wow, you've got some good eaters!! My LO is not a fan of solids. He does not seem too into purees and anything with a hint of texture makes him gag. So, currently, we are working on puffs--to help get him past the gagging and puking.
He is offered 32 ounces of formula a day and take between 20 and 28 ounces a day, I'd say.
Your LOs are eating really well and, IMO, seem to be getting a decent amount of formula. Is there a reason that they get only 2 ounces of formula with breakfast? I guess that I would maybe try to increase that amount of formula before giving them their solid breakfast foods. But, that is only a suggestion.
If you are rearlly concerned, I would call your pedi and see what they say.
I think they are eating really well.
DD right now is drinking 4 6 oz bottles and eating 3 meals a day. About a jar per meal. I mix it with 1/2 veggie and 1/2 fruit. I also make some of her food..
I've given her vegetable with beef that had some tomato and she had no problems with it.
I started the yo baby yogurts last week and she loves it. It stated six months and up.
HTH
I mix up the full 6 ounces and pour 2 ounces into another bottle to make sure they get all the medicine (do the same thing at night). However, in the mornings, they only seem to want a few ounces. I have the other 4 ounces ready for them and keep trying, but they don't want it until their nap. This happened when we introduced solids. I wish they'd take it all in the AM.
You are a smart mama to put the medicine in only 2 ounces!
FWIW, I think that they are getting plenty. Especially if they are gaining and growing!
