We had a boy 2.5 yrs ago and we are now having a girl. I want to buy new bedding but not sure if I just want to buy the bed sheets seperately or have them hand made . Or do I want to spend more money and buy a whole set that includes the bumper. We did use our bumper for ds but then shortly after that there was alot of talk bout how unsafe they are.
I haven't heard anything but is anybody not using/buying one,? Any other alternatives? I think they are realy cute and add more punch of color to the bedding but if it's unsafe I rather not.
Thanks
Re: Anybody not using the bumper for their cribs?
We're not going to use one because I'm a neurotic first-time mom. This is what we registered for as a sort of compromise.

HTH!
Most of my friends don't use bumpers.
There are mixed reviews on the safety of bumpers -- do your own research and make a well informed decision based on what's best for your family.
I will not be using a bumper -- just crib sheet and crib skirt.

We did not and will not. DD slept in a bassinet until she was 4 months @ which point she was rolling around like a champ.
She was pulling up @ 6 months. I was a climber. I climbed out of my crib and broke my collar bone @ 17 months? using the bumper and stuffed animals in my crib.
IMO it's not worth the risks (both the suffocation risk, and the risk that the kid will use the bumper as tool to get out of the crib.)
I also used the bumper for my first child and felt uncomfortable using it with #2. I got a breathable bumper for him.
His bedding set came with a bumper, so I came up with some other uses for it. The bedding set is MIGI Splash with fish and circles on the bumper. I cut out some of the fish and hot-glued them to plain white lampshades. I also cut out some of the dots and glued them on the wood wall letters spelling DS's name. I still have a lot of the bumper left, so I plan on making a couple of small pillows or toys or something from them. I LOVE how the lampshades turned out and how it coordinates the room even more!
