Fertility decline after age 30?

Anyone read (from a reputable source) or been told by their RE that TTC for a woman in their late 20s is easier than in their early 30s just due to age?  Just wondering because it was vaguely mentioned in a book I was reading (a novel) but I don't know how much truth there is to this ... I always thought it was a steady decline after 24/25.

As far as age goes, does two years (age 28 as opposed to 30) make that big of a difference?

  • Stats are stats...and the ages you are asking about are so close together.  I would be looking more at personal diagnosis and ovarian reserve than splitting hairs with ages.

  • You're born with all the eggs you'll ever have.  So yes, as you get older, the number goes down.  Yes, it's harder for some women in their 30's to get pregnant than some women in their 20's.  But the numbers don't tell you the whole story.

I've known women who had trouble in their 20's and some women who had babies in their 40's without any problem.  It's so individual based that it's hard to make sweeping generalizations.

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.

  • really - it doesn't matter.. you either get pg or you don't - IMO, the age doesn't matter. There are women in their early 20s who can't get pg -and women in their 40s that get pg without any problems.

Sure- the older you are the more chance you have of having trouble - but the fact is- you either get pg or you don't.

I never let my age stress me out when TTC.  I did however, let it help me decide to TTC right after getting married, and then soon after having DS1 - b/c i knew my chances were better the sooner I started.
